Great win for John Isner at the Indian Wells semi final match today.

Big John breaks into the top 10 by defeating no. 1 player Djokovic.

-wish I had his booming serve. 143mph (228 KM) ace against Novak. SICK.

Federer vs. Nadal in the second semi-final.

InvisibleSoul 03-23-2012 12:48 PM

I'd take Raonic's serve over Isner's anyday.

yameen 04-07-2012 02:26 PM

tennis anyone?

Richmond69er 04-09-2012 01:57 PM

where can i go with my girlfriend to get lessons?

thanks (richmond area)

pastarocket 04-27-2012 01:27 PM

Go Raonic go! Rocket Raonic defeats Andy Murray 6-4, 7-6 to advance to the semifinals of the clay court tournament in Barcelona. This is his sixth victory over a top 10 player.

He hammered in 14 aces.

If Raonic stays healthy, I can see him going into the top 15, maybe 10 soon.

Raonic knocks off Andy Murray on clay at Barcelona

Has anyone used a synthetic string with the brand name Luxilon? I hear from Tennis magazine that many of top men's players use Luxilon string for better control and topspin.

toyobaru 05-04-2012 08:22 AM

Can anyone recommend me a good string and tension setting that will help me generate A LOT of spin. Currently I am using a Prince Exo 3 Team Black with Babolat RPM Blast strings set at 53lbs.

pastarocket 06-11-2012 10:44 AM

Congrats to Nadal for winning his record seventh French Open title! An amazing win by Rafa. -played his aggressive game, and overcame the rain delays and the muddy clay to beat the no. 1 men's player Djokovic. Vamos Rafa!

An epic men's final at the French. -hope to see these guys play in the Wimbledon final.

Hey, the strings I have been playing with for awhile now are called Luxilon Alu Rough, and I string them at 55lbs. The strings are great and provide me with the spin and control I need to hit with confidence. I'd recommend them to anyone to try, however the strings and tension are more based upon personal preference I find.

wasabisashimi 06-26-2012 09:17 PM

I've heard low tension = more power, tighter tension= more bite, more spin. Anyways, It should be personal preference and your skill level. If you can normally play with so much top spin, you can lower tension to increase fire power. If you are older, you cant handle the harsh tight string, so mid 50 lb tension is fine.

IT'S TENNIS WEATHER PEOPLE WOOOO :D

Gonna try to sneak a 8am outdoor session on Friday, hopefully it's not too cold...

SkippyLang 07-06-2012 07:40 PM

Anyone watching the women's final tomorrow morning? I have the basic Telus TV package and I can't find the channel that'll show the final. Help?

InvisibleSoul 07-07-2012 07:04 PM

It's TSN that's showing it. In past years, it was NBC, but apparently ESPN got the rights starting this year, and TSN gets to piggyback that.

Solid win big 17 now

pastarocket 07-08-2012 08:33 PM

Well done Roger! Federer ties Sampras in winning 7 Wimbledon titles and regains the no. 1 ranking.

-Greatest men's tennis player of all time? A great athlete and role model for tennis players. -plays the game like a gentleman and is gracious in his victory speeches. -even said to Andy Murray at the trophy ceremony that "he'll win at least one Grand Slam."

-other tennis champions, cough cough Serena Williams take note about how to act like a good sport in victory and defeat.

Federer is a tennis god! 17 Grand slam titles and counting.

-really hope he wins an Olympic gold medal for Switzerland, and of course, another U.S. Open championship. :fullofwin:

Can I get some recommendations on tennis shoes? All I know is that they give you more support and stability than normal running shoes, but I'm not sure what to look for or where to get them.

G 07-12-2012 12:26 AM

I've seen a lot of people wear adidas barricades. I've never tried them myself but it seems like a shoe you can't go wrong with since most players use them.

Try Tad's in South Granville. They have a good selection of tennis shoes and knowledge staff who know the game well.

If you're looking for a lightweight, tennis shoe with good support, you might consider the Nike Zoom Vapor 9 tour shoe that Nadal wears.

Any idea how much they usually cost?

skiiipi 07-14-2012 09:58 AM

Just a heads up, all tennis racuqets are buy one get one half price at Sportchek....the bigger stores (richmond/metro) actually have some very nice players frames.
It includes item already marked down, I picked up two Prince Speedport Black for $99.99 + bogo, so $150 for both -10% for "A-list"...so that $135+tax for 2 racuqets that normally cost $200 each frame only, did I mention these came strung too?

Another huge factor for tennis shoes is their durability. You take regular sneakers, and if you're actually trying to play tennis for real, you'll murder those shoes in no time. Tennis shoes generally have much more durable rubber and extra reinforcements at locations that tend to drag on the court.

I personally read a lot of user reviews on Tennis Warehouse. I use some lower end Nike tennis shoes that work really well for me. They don't give me blisters or jam my toes, and that's the most important.

Been using these the last couple seasons:
Nike Air Court Mo IV White/Black/Silver Men's Shoe

Was down in Portland a couple weekends ago, and wandered into a Dick's Sporting Goods and found the exact same shoe I've been wearing for $50, so I ended up buying another pair!

etodac 08-19-2012 07:33 PM

Recommendation for a new tennis racket? I'm more advanced, not like super good. I'm thinking about the Babolat Aero Pro Drive series, but I'm not sure about the difference between the ones in that series itself.
