I'm surprised no one has mentioned Fossil yet.

Check 'em out at Metro or Oakridge Mall

Yeah, places where I'm going the watch will get banged up. That's why nothing over $150. I'm a gadgets kinda guy, so I'd love to have those "extras" even though I might not need it. I also figured that $150 is an ok compromise to having the "extras" while having a cheap enough watch I don't mind getting banged up a bit.

There are much more expensive watches out there that look great and cost a lot more. I'll save my pennies for those ones, but for now I need one that has a few bells and whistles. I usually don't even wear a watch because I just use my phone but where I'm going to be I won't be using my cellphone at all.

Fossil are crap, it will break as soon as it gets banged up a bit.

If you are going to HK any time soon, you can get an entry level G-Shock under $100 (and yes it's legit). It won't have all the whacky features, but it'll last forever.

Iceman_2K 04-25-2010 12:05 AM

def a g shock. A good watch, no matter what you decide to go with, will be a life saver

Levitron 04-25-2010 12:05 AM

I think locally entry level G-Shocks can be pretty cheap too here. I might have to look into asking my HK contacts to check prices for me...I quite like that Riseman.

SkinnyPupp 04-25-2010 12:10 AM

Yup it's my main watch now. I got the special edition all-black one ;) Those are about $200 in Japan, and $400 in HK (for some reason)

SkinnyPupp 04-25-2010 12:13 AM

You also might like the Gulfman

Only thing is that Casio just left all the compass watches to the ProTrek/Pathfinder line :(

SkinnyPupp 04-25-2010 12:24 AM

Yup but those are identical to the G-Shock in everything but name anyway.

orange7 04-25-2010 02:27 AM

hey, what time is it?

JordanLee 04-25-2010 02:32 AM

This thread got awesome when that Riseman got posted. God damn thing is a beast. If only it cooked me dinner too...

Citizen Eco-Drive

You never have to replace the battery (solar powered rechargeable)
and most of them have a perpetual calendar so you never have to change the date if it has one (well up to 2100 anyways)

WTF!!! You mention hiking/travelling and having a compass and temperature would be nice, and no one has mentioned Sunnto yet!!! Get a Suunto!

The Suunto Vector is a full featured outdoorsman watch and comes in several colours. It has a altimeter, barometer, thermometer, and digital compass. It retails for ~$200 at MEC or Coast Mountain (now called Atmosphere), but can be found in the $100-150 range on sale or on eBay.

They were worn many times on Stargate SG-1, and Mark Wahlberg wore one in Shooter.

My watch is the Suunto Military X-Lander. It's basically a Vector, but with an anodized aluminum housing, carbon fiber inserts, and a mineral glass front. It's around $350.

^The SUUNTO is a good suggestions, albeit is somewhat out of your price range.

Although having an excess amount of gadgets is awesome, one of the most important things, imo, is a nice big screen. That's one particular fault I find with G-Shock watches, the screen is so cramped with what are (I'm assuming) useless dials and what not. After some contemplation, I got a Timex Ironman 100-Lap Flix.

http://openimage.interpark.com/goods...165080038s.gif

Fantastically large dial, easy to read at any moment's notice. My budget was under $100 w/ taxes and that is the watch I came up with. G-shock is great and that's why they've been around for so long but just make sure you compare some big dial/screen watches and a G-shock before you make your final decision.

Seriously, a big screen makes a lot of difference not just to your eyes but positively contributes to the style of the watch.

You may also want to consider how loud the alarm is, if you're going to be dependent on it.

Both G-Shocks I mentioned have solar power and nightly radio synchronization :)

Whats the battery life on those with the inverse LCD? Is it worse because there's might to "light up"?

It's the same...it's basically a polarizer screen that's been turned on a different angle so that the opposite shows up.
