What's a good watch for around $100-150?

My requirements:
-used outdoors in sports, hiking, traveling
-waterproof
-gadgets would be nice (i.e. compass, temperature, etc.)

seakrait 04-24-2010 03:17 PM

timex?

timex.ca ... check out the "outdoors" section.

edit: yes, this is over your budget but they have other cheaper watches on their site with less functions. besides, it's TIMEX, "they take a lickin' and keep on tickin'!"

Tegra_Devil 04-24-2010 03:19 PM

walmart actually has "some" decent watches for pretty cheap

Kim Jong Un 04-24-2010 03:28 PM

timex expedition got my vote!

Spectre_Cdn 04-24-2010 03:30 PM

5 replies and nobody has said G-Shock? WOW.

Get a Riseman

Altimeter, thermometer, barometer, everything you need (and don't need ;)) from a watch

Levitron 04-24-2010 04:25 PM

Thanks...the Riseman looks like a good suggestion.

The WS4 is a little too big unfortunately.

SkinnyPupp 04-24-2010 04:29 PM

If you need a compass, you can look at Casio ProTrek too. They are basically a variation on the G-Shock. They are usually quite big though, but not as fugly as that Timex up there

murd0c 04-24-2010 04:35 PM

with the Canadian dollar so good right now you should go to the states to check them out. Maybe shop around here and buy the one you want off ebay for cheaper?

seakrait 04-24-2010 05:17 PM

lol. how much are g-shocks anyway?

murd0c 04-24-2010 05:21 PM

saw them on ebay for around $150

There are literally hundreds of models to choose from, ranging from $99 to $6000

A RiseMan will be about $150-200, depending on model.

insomniac 04-24-2010 05:31 PM

yeah g-shock is the way to go.
form+function=win :D

A basic Timex Iron Man watch suits your needs and those are only $25-$80. I had the most basic one while travelling around in Asia.. it just kicked ass. If you're going to be hiking/travelling, it'll get banged up anyway.

How often would you really need compass/temp gauge? It sounds useful on paper, but I think in day to day life it's unnecessary and you'd be dragging lost of unnecessary weight around.

It's kinda like those calculator watches.

Save the money for a fancier watch for other occasions!

There's been so many times when I was lost and thought to myself "if only I had a fricken compass on me right now!"

Sarcasm?

If not,
haha fair enough. You're probably better off with a iPhone or some GPS shit or something.

fishing666 04-24-2010 05:40 PM

yeah..avoid extras...keep it simple and use a watch for what it is, a watch.

elwell 04-24-2010 05:40 PM

G shock

SkinnyPupp 04-24-2010 05:41 PM

I never knew how useful a compass would be until I had one on my PDA

check out fossil stuff...might not be what you want but some of their stuff may fit ur price tag...

Definitely go for a G-Shock, those things are tough as hell. Got one while I was a kid, took it off in school and placed it in the pocket, housekeeper threw it in the washing machine, thing actually survived the wash without a scratch. Thing is still working today (bout 15+ years old).
