Quebec perminently bans RHD cars

Quote:

Uh oh, A bit of bad news for enthusiasts in Canada. The province of Quebec has banned the importation of registration of right hand drive vehicles over unspecified "safety issues", a move which will no doubt be a big blow to the Japanese car scene in Canada.

At the time the ban is just for Quebec, but there are worries the movement could spend to the rest of the country.

Maybe it's time for some organized opposition, just as SEMA has helped the hobbyist countless times here in the states?

If it happens here, lots of people will be getting fucked...

Raid3n 04-26-2010 10:54 PM

not really. all currently registered cars will be grandfathered through the new law. it will only ban the importation of new RHD vehicles.

1exotic 04-26-2010 11:00 PM

Oh I see, well anyways, It would nice to see R34's come here... wouldn't mind getting one of those.

I guess the people that would screwed is all the businesses... IF it happens.

twitchyzero 04-26-2010 11:03 PM

if the 15 year rhd import rule stays, by then R36 will probably be out and the R34 will be as common as the current R32 that infest our streets

So... what about the RHD postal vehicles that they use in Quebec? Are they going to ban them as well?

If they could make all the douches who have RHD vehicles take some extra education on the added risks and changes they need to make to their driving style to compensate for difference like civil servants do, the law would be unnecessary.

A good read about this:

I met this girl who had a R32 GTR, and she lives in Montreal.
Her car was impounded after she was pulled over a couple days after Quebec banned RHD cars.

That being said, I don't know how it works over there, but that seems harsh to me.

dinamix 04-27-2010 12:37 AM

why dont you people just buy a lhd beater?

The_AK 04-27-2010 12:54 AM

i guess someone could invest in a shop doing conversions... but that would just be way to freaking expensive and ultimately not worth it

XtC-604 04-27-2010 12:56 AM

or those frenchies should just stop being anal about everything?

The SAAQ recommends caution when traveling on board a light vehicle and avoid, where possible, including public roads with posted speed over 70 km / h.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Stupid frenchies. And they think you should do 70km/h with a fucking 2CV?

becuz those who buys RHD think they are god like for being different

!LittleDragon 04-27-2010 09:13 AM

Here's an idea... how about RHD licensing? Like how you have to get a motorcycle license, you need to take another test for RHD. I'm not a fan of RHD or JDM but I do like the old Brit roadsters and it would be a shame if I can't get one when I'm in my 40's...

hk20000 04-27-2010 11:40 AM

RHD already has a special indication in the insurance policy for being RHD and I think it's getting dinged hard if you try to get comprehensive and collision coverage.

q0192837465 04-27-2010 11:52 AM

Apart from a handful of enthusiasts, I think most RHD drivers r buying RHD cars just to be different

Qmx323 04-27-2010 12:05 PM

i saw an old RHD corolla once, this gen too

Dude, they make no sense at all. They want to split away from Canada yet not take up any of Canada's national debt and want to use canadian currency and still want to maintain all trade regulations with no taxation?
They'll support anything french, but as long as its not and its hurting their sales, they'll ban it.

deep87 04-27-2010 02:15 PM

Most of the rhd cars are rwd/awd, turbocharged, light weight
and usually in very good condition for their age (cheaper insurance).
Nothing in the Canadian car market compares.
I can see why the government might be under some pressure to ban these...

Datsun 04-27-2010 02:26 PM

If someone's desperate enough, they can swap Mirage parts to Evos and Cressida parts to x80's.
