Looking for good netbook The specs on the alienware m11x really had me going until I found out the cpu's are being phased out and very old. The gaming mode to powersaving mode switch isn't as smooth as it could be. It's not overclockable like they claim and it doesn't have usb3. I know asus currently supports usb3 on it's laptops but 1018 is kinda weak compared to the m11x and all the others are too big. I'm looking for sub 12 USB 3 i3+ cpu Any suggestions? |
Sounds like what you're looking for is ultra compact laptop instead of netbook. I have a Dell M1210, a 12.1" laptop, and personally, I'd never get another laptop this small that packs that much heat-generating components. The mobo already died on me once because of the heat. Thank god for Dell's awesome warranty. |
I was thinking the same thing, you're talking about a small notebook, not a netbook, with the specs you're after. Now as far as a netbook, I've been loving my ASUS 1005HA - 10.1", Atom N270, 1GB RAM, 160GB(!!!) HDD, LED backlight, 802.11n... 8 hours or better battery life. Screen is only 1024x600 (native) but it's quite usable. I normally hate touchpads, but this one works quite well, and the smaller keyboard is no problem at all for my fat fingers. Got it on sale at A-Power for $299, and right now they have them on sale for $279. Only thing I'd like to see is built-in bluetooth, but that would have been another $100 or so. |
Asus U30Jc. No USB3 and it's 13 inches but everything else kicks ass. http://ca.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=IZfJRyRqVpStMi76 |
Acer 1810TZ |
Unfortunately that uses the same cpu as the low end m11x |

Thats a 13.3 i already have a m1210 looking to go smaller. |
Having a hard time with my m1210 trying if i should A.buy a cheap netbook to get by or B. have the m1210 fixed.... I took it to a track day in the summer and the screen started locking up but after cooling down it would still lock up unless i keep moving the angle of the lcd around. Ever since then i've just been using it with an external monitor, but now I need a small portable solution that works by itself... Of course option C is the best waiting for a small netbook that has all the features i'm waiting for but.... there doesn't seem to be anything promising coming down the tube atm. Quote:

m1210's with nvidia are all problematic and will eventually die. If you're just using it for tuning just get a netbook. |
Sorry i've been out of the loop i thought nvidia bought everyone out and is the only vid card maker? |
^ There's still ATi (owned by AMD) and of course the integrated Intel solutions. |
I use a Hp Mini 210. Intel 450 1.66ghz 2gig ram, 10.1in bright view screen. Been a blessing to have since my M17x is like 15lbs. Alienware stuff is good but they phase out things soo fast. How much are you looking to spend? |
Didn't want to make another thread on this, but I am also looking for a netbook.. looking to spend max $500 |
The new ASUS 1218's are nice. Don't know when they'll be out. Alumnium shell. The Acer1410/1810's are good if you can still find them. And to the OP. There's no such thing as a good netbook for games. |
The asus 1218s look really nice.. but no price or specs have been released yet |
My 1810tz is wonderful. Runs 64bit Windows, so that's even better (I run Lightroom and Photoshop a lot so those programs in 64bit is great). I get close to 10 hours of battery life just going on internet and surfing. |

I need to download an app to manually make the fan run at the highest speed in order to make the new mobo last longer. |

No price restriction just looking to meet my needs. |
if u got no price limit, then just get the Sony Z117.... Core i7, 8GB ram, 4x SSD in RAID 0, GT330m, 13.1" screen that does 1920x1080 and only weight like 3lbs |
You won't find anything sub 12" suitable for gaming other than the m11x. |
M11X might be 11.1", but it weights 1.5lbs more then the Z117 and have far shittier performance |

Even then no usb3 SSD drive is now also part of the requirement to take advantage of the transferspeeds if ysb3. Quote:
