They actually had an orientation session today. I received an invite but after some thought decided not to go (for now).
From what I know there's another training session in late december after the one on the 6th and another orientation session in January for those that are interested.

Just a couple of questions about the orientation/training session.
When and where is the orientation session/ training session? How do you get invited and do u have to be invited to attend those sessions?
How come u decided not to go?

They didn't tell me exactly when the next orientation is, just that it'd be in January. The location for the one yesterday was Compass Point Inn in Surrey. Apply on their website and you should get an invite.
I'm still still in school right now and this is completely unrelated to what I'm doing so I decided to hold off for now. Another major downer is the 24/7 on call - you never really know when you're going to work so your schedule's gonna be all over the place.

Are you constantly on the yard doing the same repetitive task for 8 hrs per day? or you do a bit of everything, paperwork, etc.

I can't tell you that I've had the same day twice since I've started. End up doing a beltpack shift one day, full crew the next, transfer from Lynn Creek to Thorton yard the day after. You get the idea. Lots of different things, lots of industries to learn.
To put it simply, we move box cars.
