No one stocks m11x. Anywhere you go they'll just end up ordering it in.

This is what pains me the most.
I hate ordering something before I test it out. It just seems like such a HUGE hassle for something that might turn out to be a bust.
And I am not going to get alienware plus I hate small monitors.
That would totally defeat the purpose of me getting this work laptop. I have a friend who has the M11X and it is SWEET. I just can't get over the 11inch monitors. 13.3 is IDEAL.

When do you need it? Acer and Asus are soon releasing their mainstream/multimedia laptops with Intel's mobile Nehalem processors.

That Asus looks pretty good. For my next laptop I will definitely consider ASUS/Toshiba. My 6 year old Toshiba still running like new..running Windows 7. The thing is a tank.

I won't need it till probably late June if even that. I know that the release dates are all messed up cause apparently Intel is holding out on processors till summer so I don't know what is up with that.
Know of anything you heard?

What size & portability are you looking for?
I got a thinkpad x201 last week when it was on sale.
Total for the laptop came out to about $950:
- 12.2" screen
- Weight about 3lbs
- i5-540
- 4GB
- 320GB 7200rpm HD
- Finger print reader
- Bluetooth
- 6 cells battery (which should last 5-6 hrs under normal usage, they also have 9 cell battery that should last more than 10 hours)

The NVIdia chip would run hot, HP didn't design adequate cooling, and HP switched to "environmentally friendly" solder which has a lower melting point. Plus hibernate/sleep would keep the video chip powered and always hot. All combined it would cause the solder on the video chip would fail after 12-24 months of use. There are a number of fixes online, yet I tried them and none worked long term. Eventually I packed it in and bought my new Dell.
Dell does have a reputation lately of poor quality too, yet their customer service is always top notch. |
What about Nvidia and Dell systems?
I have my eye on the Alienware m17x Laptop
Is there clear choice to get dual SLI video card?

unless you game a whole lot, an Alienware laptop is a waste of money. The Lenovo that someone posted a few posts above is a good choice for the money.

any updates CRS? I'm looking at pretty much the same laptop or the UL20, just cause its significantly cheaper but I'm not sure how well I would adapt to a 12".
But I really want to know if there's any stores that carry the ULs in stock so I can take a look at them in person before ordering.

I am waiting on the release of UL30JT before I make a decision on UL30VT vs. Timeline
