Stop and go too hard for a manual? Complete bull. You're driving like a fool. Pace yourself, keep the car at speed by allowing a decent space in front of you and judging your speed based on the 5 cars ahead of you and not just staring at one rear bumper.

It doesn't always work, but I've made some way smoother drives through backed-up highway for myself AND the cars behind me. It's riskier in the left lane because everyone wants to be in the left lane, so people will cut into the space you leave ahead; but in the right lane it can be oh so smooth.

I enjoy driving stick but it rush hour traffic I love having my auto.

hk20000 05-23-2010 07:53 AM

I just went down to the States yesterday and had a 2 hour border wait.

AT please.

LYC 05-23-2010 09:59 AM

when i was younger both my parents cars were standard so i didn't really have a choice. even now all of my cars have been manual and i wouldn't have it any other way.

i do agree though that being in bumper to bumper traffic on the highway in the morning blows. its even worse when your car has a heavy ass clutch.

once in a while threads pop up on RS claiming how manual is for real men or how FF cars are for pussies

I learned driving manual half a year ago. At first, I didn't like it and was nervous. But once you get the hang of it, it is pretty fun. I would like to see more girls drive manual as well.

So anybody else agree?

Like others have said, the majority of people aren't interested in driving being satisfying or fun - they're interested in going from point A to point B.

Also, fewer and fewer vehicles are being produced with manuals. Out of all the vehicles that are sold, only 10% have manuals, and that number is probably going to decrease. Even new Ferrari's don't have a manual option any more (458) and Lambo is probably going to follow suit.

I definitely prefer manual myself but the pattern with car manufacturers seems to be towards getting rid of them in the future...

auto=steering
manual= driving

civic_rice 05-23-2010 04:22 PM

standard is un and all, but day to day driving it can be a pain. espicaially if u have a 6 puck clutch and heay pressure plate making it clutch on or off lol

Noizz 05-23-2010 04:55 PM

Off topic but, more people should rideeeeeee

- dragging knees, ludicrous speeds, teeth smashing acceleration
- none of that one braking pedal nonsense, when you ride you control both front/rear independent brakes
- WOT clutchless shifting
- traffic is a breeze with a buttery smooth straight cut gearbox and lane-splitting as an option

I urge anyone who is an enthusiast about motor sports to consider riding, take it to Mission and you'll be speechless when you're braking so hard entering turn one that your front forks chatter and rear wheel hops holding on to your dear life after doing the straight at 240km/hr.

orange7 05-23-2010 06:17 PM

more people should drift.

crazyazn 05-23-2010 09:01 PM

I wouldn't say more people should drive manual...but I would 200% support it if it were made mandatory to take the driving tests in a standard transmission car.

Nice, driving a manual lambo in heels.

Death2Theft 05-23-2010 10:27 PM

If using inferior technology is how you get your jollies off you should consider riding a unicycle into on coming traffic down granville.

So buy the car and swap in a manual! It's not rocket science. And swap in a better motor while you're at it...

As great as this would be not everyone can afford to do this lol.

Pfft.. then they better not bother wasting money trying to mod their car...

I swapped a better engine with a 5 speed into my car for $800. It can be done on the cheap, but you have to do your homework..

Wasn't a Crapalier, douchebag.

And congratulations, you're the 1,000,002nd person to make a Cavalier joke in response to one of my posts. How original!

This is a dumb idea as many others have stated already.
Whether others drive stick or not has no effect on me.

Actually, if people already have problems driving auto,
and accidents occur more often, it WILL effect me.
Too many traffic jams.

Phil@rise 05-25-2010 09:08 AM

I prefer stick on the street and slush box on the trail.
I believe that your license should have transmission type restrictions on it as well. If you learn to drive an auto then that's what your stuck with till your tested on a standard. Sort of like a graduated license thing.

Mugen EvOlutioN 05-25-2010 09:18 AM

^

makes a lot more sense

i dont see the point as one of the member pointed out, to make driving manual mandatory at the road test. If you pass, continue driving auto after you pass your test? doesnt make much sense does it.

jpark 05-25-2010 09:51 AM

driving standard is always fun but i prefer auto in traffic which i go through like everyday... -_-
