More people should drive a manual car More people should drive a manual car (well at least in Vancouver). It is much more satisfying and fun than an automatic or a tiptronic when you're driving and cruising around. I learned driving manual half a year ago. At first, I didn't like it and was nervous. But once you get the hang of it, it is pretty fun. I would like to see more girls drive manual as well. So anybody else agree? |
Only if I'm cruising around. Honestly, having to drive a stickshift 7 in the morning to get to work in a mountain of cars and traffic lights isn't my thing. |
people r lazy, thats y automatics were invented. |
I think its so sexy when a girl can drive stick |
Disagree. Crappy drivers + manual = :fuuuuu It really wouldn't matter to me if more people drove manual or not - them driving a manual has no affect on my enjoyment of mine. |
Disagree. People already have enough problems just with steer, brake, and gas!! :) |
I think it depends on what people use their cars for. Automotive enthusiasts like us will have no problem agreeing with you that driving a manual is more fun. However, not everyone in the world is an automotive enthusiast nor should they be one. Our priorities and interests are different in life and there are lots of people out there who sees their car as a tool for transportation. Driving a manual requires more work than driving an automatic and because "fun" is subjective, there will be people out there who does not want to drive a manual car. IMO we shouldn't be expecting everyone around us to enjoy what's "fun" for us. If they want to relax in their boat-like lexus and listen to classical music without shifting one gear, let them be. That's their way of enjoying the drive. |
^ Couldn't agree more. On a side note I think I saw you two days ago downtown... or in E van... rocking different rims than your sig? |
imo make all sports cars manual its good honda has already did it to the civic si |
Off-peak time when its sunny and you just woke up at 2pm on a Sat, yeah for sure I take the 6sp car. Early morning at 8.00am stuck in traffic and its raining + you are half dead crawling to work.... a comfy AT on the softest suspension possible please. Tons of situations where a MT>AT and AT>MT. Personally, I would take a Twin clutch F1 style box for my next car. |
I'm gonna agree with Culture_Vulture and 124Y. Really depends the situation is, you wouldn't wanna be changing gears every 5 seconds in rush hour traffic would you? |
seriously my BMW is automatic, and my Jeep is standard (it should be the other way around). Currently i've been driving my Jeep for 5 months because my BMW is currently being worked on. It really depends on your mood of driving. Waking up in the morning, and traffic make me dislike driving standard very much. I am too the point where i miss my automatic, but ofcourse there are days where standard is too awesome. Seriously, triptronic in the new generation BMW's are the best of both worlds, but if it was any sports car. Standard only. |
Before back in the highschool days people would make a big deal about a person driving stick or not. To me it doesn't make a difference when cruising. Posted via RS Mobile |

I personally just wish there were more cars that were standard for sale. I have found the majority of cars are automatic and being that I love standard it sucks. However I do agree that people should be able to choose which ever they prefer. |

That's like saying more people should take the bus. Yeah, thanks but no thanks. And a lot of high power cars are automatic. AMG's. BMW M Division. GT-RAWR. Its not a choice anymore when car manufacturers don't think you can shift faster than what they can program the computer to shift. |
stick is really fun, full control of the car..that is if u actually know how drive auto is for pussies |
"auto is for pussies.." Gotta love that. Maybe some people just simply want to get from A to B without worrying about clutching and shifting. Having said that, I myself drive a stick, but it's easy to see why people would get an auto. |
As has been stated, there are times when you want both styles of transmission. Let me tell you, driving in rush hour when you're barely crawling along while constantly playing with a heavy race clutch sucks. I did it for a year... never again. But even tonight when I went out for a drive, there were times while I was in some twisties that I was happy I was driving a stick... but then there were other times that I wish it was merely an automatic and I could just sit back and not have to worry about constantly shifting. Meh, it's a personal preference. My mom knows how to drive a stick and actually prefers it over a slushbox. My dad, on the other hand, could care less about which one he uses. In fact, he'd rather drive an automatic. I fail to see how that makes him a "pussy," though... |

If a girl knows how to properly drive stick, it can be sexy. It's nice to see them bang through the gears. |
50/50. depends on what car really.. but i'd take a stick over an auto. |
When I got my car I wanted 5spd but after driving to bcit 8 in the morning then back home at 5 made me change my mind. Also occasionally getting onto the Port Mann around those times too. Posted via RS Mobile |
I enjoy driving stick for the reason that it helps me connect with my driving more. Driving stick also forces you to drive in a more engaged manner. |
