Going to Taipei

I'm going to Taipei for vacation next week

Anyone recommend any good restaurants to go to for formal dining ?

Also would like some recommendations on good restaurants for cheap/casual dining as well?

Other than that what else is there to do in Taipei other than clubbing (which i hear is amazing there) ?

finding a place to eat in Taipei is the least you should be worry about. Especially for cheap/casual dining, there are like 15 restaurants within the raidus of 1km literally

Second that. Unless you are in major commercial area where rent is too much for restaurant.

As for formal dining, I'd recommend hitting up Taipei 101. The food up there is soso... but dining at 300+ meter above the ground is an experience that nothing else come close.

cheap food is everywhere, i doubt u will have to worry about that.

but if you want some real fine dining, you better go in with a deep pocket. $100-150 cdn is achievable per person.

tw clubbin is a whole new diff level than vancouver, try it and u will know wat i mean.
;) now hit up that joint.

check out Search night club
 good shit

go to shi lin nightmarket (outside of jian tan MRT station)...they have good street vendors..same with tong hua street. but if you want truly amazing street vendors you have to go to southern taiwan (tai zhong and tai nan). and go eat at the toilet restaurant for the pictures.

shop at ximending.

room 18 for clubbing..more locals...if you wanna club with canadians/americans luxy is usually ~30% north americans.

there's a similar thread if you search it up.

ximending is for middle school/high school kids... good place to pick up girls (tai mei) rather than shop lol

How do you make yourself CBC though? You'll look like every other asian there unless they talk to you no? :p

i dont know, its funny tho how when u go back tw ppl who realize u came back from another country, they idolize u like god or sth no joke (well obviously exaggerating a little but...) perhaps fobs sometimesdont dig fobs themself. Therefore it makes the person stand out more, the way u talk, dress, meeting new friends etc....

Where's Ulic?

Nismo 1234 05-28-2010 03:10 PM

For formal dining i would recommend jing hua jiu dian, or kai yue(its the same company has hyatt in vancouver). kai yue is famous for their afternoon tea...a green aston martin is always parked there.
jing hua jiu dian is better for formal dinners tho. At kai yue.. a lot of parties are hosted there for some reasons. but i dono about these days. Jing hua always has amazing cars:P

^Those are pretty good places to eat at.
BTW It's not 凱悅 anymore it's 君悅.

Some restaurants I can think of off the top of my head...
王品牛排 (Wang's steak :lol). http://www.wangsteak.com.tw/EN/about.htm

Galerie Bistro http://www.galeriebistro.com/main.html

Mihan http://www.grandformosa.com.tw/CH/Dining/MihanHonke/

B-one Buffet @ 西華飯店 http://www.sherwood.com.tw/en/

As for clubbing:
-Room18
-Babe18
-Search
-Luxy
-Lava
Just to name a few :D. Clubbing is indeed AMAZING in Taipei. Chicks praise us CBCs. :D

Other than clubbing, you can go shopping. Ximending (西門町) has a lot of small stores that offer cheap, but fashionable clothing; same with Wufenpu (五分埔). Most of the quality is not that great though... kinda like Urban Behavior quality.

If you want to shop for more high-end stuff, go to the east shopping area or the XinYi area (where the Taipei101 is located at).

fuuuck i wanna go this summer, but have no one to go with...
hmm is going alone going to be a problem if i only know canto and english?

Heavy_user 06-09-2010 03:27 PM

Taipei and Taiwan in general has large selection for both fine dining and market foods.
Shilin night market is a must.
Dan-Sui is also an area to visit, good views and street vendor food.
The area around Taipei 101 (shin-yi) area has some pretty good shops and restaurants as well.

i don't know mandarin and i find it extremely difficult to get around in non touristy places.. its even hard to order a burger at mcdonalds i just tried like 1 hour ago ..

the regent grand formosa is a great hotel to stay at but it is pricy...

anyone in taipei for the next couple months ? i'm going to be here attempting to learn mandarin

Mugen EvOlutioN 06-16-2010 07:56 AM

^

you will definitely have some difficulties traveling around not capable of speaking mandarin. The majority of the locals cannot speak english, like you would expected

f00tzilla 06-16-2010 08:16 AM

^

yep its extremely frustrating but i guess this will help me learn

i look like i can speak mandarin (since i am chinese) but i can't therefore i look like a dumbass everytime i try to buy something
