I'm not a big fan of West..

If I was taking my gf (She has a Red Seal, and has worked as a chef at Ciopinnos, Cannery, Diva, etc), I would take her to:
- Five Sails
- Ciopinnos (although Pino is kinda mad at her)
- La Regalade
- Araxi (But it's in Whistler)

La Buca/La Altro Buca is great, but they're on the cheaper side of 'fine dining' (which is also why I love them)

I'll give a review on the restaurants. I wouldn't really call them fine dining.

italian kitchen and Trattoria was not good. I did not enjoy their appetizers nor their pasta. It's more of a nice dining place but i wouldn't call it fine dining.

coast has a very decent setting but man is it loud. it's great to take a girl there (mid to late 30s), it's more 'upper' scale than Sanafir. they do have decent mussels and they oysters and king crab platter aint' bad to just sit there and enjoy on a nice rainy day.

sanafir was by far my favorite. having 8 people on their kingsize bed and using your fingers with their testing menu was a great experience for me. great to take a date out. do NOT order the cheap 35 menu. Their cucumber martini were amazing.

Glowbal was crap, i don't like their setup and lunch was medicore. there's so much options at yaletown that i wouldn't choose glowbal.

Glowbal and their group of restaurants is nothing even close to the definition of fine dining.

I'm gonna have to agree on how poorly Glowbal and its chains are in terms of food. Food is sub par and super crammped seating. However, from a business standpoint they are very professional to work with and gotta give it up to a man who managed to get 5? 6? Restaurants to open up in the past ..what? Under 10 years? There's always a wait no matter the time and although the food sucks the atmosphere is fun.
