Ctrl + Shift + T

Restores a closed browser window if you accidentally CTRL+W 'ed it.

And if you're using a kickass browser like Chrome, you can even restore it even if
you closed the entire chrome browser.

If you have 4 tab open, and you accidentally click the X and close everything.
Open a new browser, Ctrl+Shit+T, and you get all 4 tabs back.

Not sure if Firefox can do this.

I get annoyed how people still type www.

Just type Google.com, yahoo.com, cnn.com , revscene.net it will get you there.. no need for www!!!

you don't need WWW

gah :)

SOmebodies gotta say it but even the way you do it is annoying. All you need to type is google and hit ctrl + enter . FYI ctrl + enter only applies to .com's so for .net etc is a different set of hot keys =)

you don't even need to type out the .com part now. Just type in "google" in the address bar then hit ctrl + enter. Automatically puts in the rest for you.

try going to sfu.ca without the triple w

simsimi1004 06-03-2010 05:25 PM

also another trick from wayback

if you bookmark a page and have a custom name for that bookmark,
just type in that name in the adress bar and it will take you to the bookmarked page

Blinky 06-03-2010 05:26 PM

www depends on the way the webserver is set up. I have visited some sites (not the big ones such as yahoo, google etc) which require the www.

Try ctrl/shift/tab to go backwards. It also works in googhole chrome.

LUUUUUUUU 06-03-2010 10:09 PM

did not know this... lol thx!

try holding both SHIFT keys on ur keyboard while typing "THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG" without correcting

some keyboards can't do that without having errors

The thing is, some people (or maybe just me) can type ".com" faster than sliding my hand to the right, to press Ctrl+Enter.
And I use google.ca so it's a bit faster than .com by one key stroke. lol
Then again, I barely go to google, since typing in the url bar is like searching on google, and if I Alt + Home key, it goes to my
home site, which is set to google.ca

HE QUIK BROWN FO JUPS OER HE LA DOG

Not bad... can most standard keyboard do this? Cause I have a gaming keyboard.

Another useful one is Alt + D
Puts your cursor to the URL bar, so you don't have to move your mouse to click it when you want to go to a new site.
some keyboards can't do that without having errors

Ikkaku 06-04-2010 12:11 AM

TE UIC RWN JUS VER TE LAY DG

wtf... lol!

LiquidTurbo 06-04-2010 12:18 AM

Alt + D owns. Love that one. Use it all the time to go to new websites and everything. I prefer navigating via keyboards rather than mouse movements.

LUUUUUUUU 06-04-2010 02:17 AM

i have a logitech G15 (gen 1) and i can type that with no errors

THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG

but but... i can type the www. and .com faster than i can move my hands to press ctrl+enter.

Wow, this one I did not know. Always did Ctrl + L-click. Sweet, now I can eat wings while opening new tabs, frees up the L hand. :D

Here's my contribution.. (these are for Windows)

1) To minimize all your windows in a hurry, hit Windows + D. (D for Desktop)
2) To run something, instead of Start -> Run, hit Windows + R.
3) To delete something permanently (instead of sending it to the Recycle Bin then having to empty it) use Shift + Del instead of Del.

I do that (permanent delete) by default and without thinking - so it can be dangerous! :)
