No word yet, but this past weekend I was down there and some stores are honouring the no TAX thing for BC residents.

Ross, Banana Republic did the no tax thing.
Walmart, DKNY taxed me.

Just go to the cashier and ask if they will honour the no tax for BC residents.

Yeah, they were open when I went this weekend.

They were 50% off of everything, but didn't allow you to combine with any other discounts. :(

It's been open since mid-June (when I went). Got a really nice looking graphic T shirt for 9.99

shenmecar 07-14-2010 06:39 PM

DKNY was open at Seattle Premium when i went in early May!

hk20000 07-14-2010 07:35 PM

Walmart sales person gave me a heads up that they, too, will honor this no tax policy starting tomorrow (July 15th)

I don't know the truthfulness in it nor do I stand by it, but that is what I heard when I was down for formula drift 4 days ago.

no tax at walmart as of july 15th, no tax at nordstrom rack and nike store at premium outlets

saucywoman 07-19-2010 10:06 AM

Was at Macy's in Seattle on Sat they honoured the no tax, but the premium outlets weren't yesterday. When at the Nike store, the guy there said as of Friday they blocked the no tax thing so we did have to pay tax AND that any province it applied to before the July 1st proposal for no tax (eg. Alberta) was going to have to start paying taxes; so now all canadians have to pay their sales tax. FTL :(

saucywoman 07-19-2010 10:08 AM

it's only an 8.6% so it's still cheaper if you were planning to shop down there anyhow, but it would've been nicer to NOT have to pay taxes.

moky 07-19-2010 01:00 PM

costco/target/walmart all had taxes. no exemptions. i was there for weekend and was at various locations; tulalip, auburn, tukwila and tacoma.

some of the stores at the outlet also had no exemptions.

one saleslady at ben bridges said that the tax exemption was officially revoked for most provinces except alberta and sask., and stores that end up honouring the no tax thing end up paying for the tax exemption.

Officially overturned unless/until they appeal..

someone i know has both Alberta and BC licenses, and only uses Alberta license for use in washington... made me want to do that too... until my hopes got up for the BC exemption

CorneringArtist 07-19-2010 03:05 PM

Fuck, and I'm gonna be visiting family this weekend!

Ch28 07-19-2010 03:12 PM

wait....it says washington state so does that mean the ENTIRE Washington area is not tax exempt?

fuuuuuuuu..........

CorneringArtist 07-19-2010 03:18 PM

The last couple pages had people saying that it was up to the store to issue the exemption or not. It's extended to the whole state now.

fuuuu indeed.

As much as I hate Gordo, in this case I don't think it was his fault.
Blame the people of Whatcom county and the City of Bellingham.

I think the ppl down in Washington are just reacting to the implementation of HST, so the fault ultimately lies with Gordo.
