BC Residents Qualify for WA Tax Exemption http://dor.wa.gov/docs/forms/excstx/..._quarterly.pdf Picked this one off RFD. Probably a response to the HST to get BC'ers to come down and buy American. I think this can be both a blessing and a curse. Good, because we can save some money by going down, but bad because some people wont buy Canadian (BC) goods (which is kind of the point of the HST). Thoughts? |
Good for them? |
good for us, we save 8percent tax |
bad for gordo |
awesome news Amazon shopping with no tax? (amazon taxes shipments to WA) probably not though since items are shipped in wa :/ |

(If that makes any sense) |
^ I think you don't pay the taxes in WA but you're still required to pay for the canadian taxes when crossing the border, if the item you're bringing across is very $$ |
Awesome, I've been waiting for this to happen for years! |

Any online store that has a local (as in the same state) presence is required to collect sales tax. This really only benefits retail (over the counter) sales and not so much for online sales. (i.e. it's great for those of us shopping at the outlets) |
Wait so no tax when buying from retail in WA? but we still get taxed for crossing back to canada when going past border right? |

Previously, it would have been the sales tax of the county you purchased in (which was usually around the 8% area), plus the GST+PST (12%) so you'd be paying at least 20% of your item's value in taxes. I'm assuming when this goes into place, you could just show your BC drivers license to prove you're from BC, and they won't charge you the WA taxes. I'm not too sure how they'll handle online sales shipped to a local (WA) address. I'm going to assume that they aren't going to give you an exemption for that since they have no way of validating your residency at the time of purchase. |
Tires? :D |
so can someone that's read the thing summarize the thing for us lazies? |
