Proof of Honda Engine Reliability

Not my car, but a guy with this RSX:

http://i46.tinypic.com/infqy1.jpg

Convert that from MPH, and that's 374,000km on an 2003 RSX.

Now if Honda could only design transmissions that are just as bulletproof:thumbsup:

Qmx323 06-12-2010 04:27 AM

how the fu...

thats 148km a day... everyday.

skyxx 06-12-2010 12:20 PM

Commutes to work from suburbs to city. You can easily hit that.

!Aznboi128 06-12-2010 12:24 PM

my friends RDX 2010 just hit 42k....
she works at bc ferries and lives in maple ridge

there's a vw beetle somewhere that hit 350k which is surprising

welfare 06-12-2010 12:30 PM

there was a civic on showcase at the honda dealership on fraser hwy some years back. surpassed the 1 million k mark. that's without ever having the heads removed.
that was late 70's technology. imagine the marks cars can hit now with the advancements we've made. though the longevity of any vehicle is only as great as its owner

vanLUDERCity 06-12-2010 01:03 PM

any "PROOF" that number is real?

Word. Many people in the states drive a lot farther distances. It would be like going from Abbotsford to Vancouver everyday..

there were a few american trucks made in the nineties taht are truly indestructible... now it seems like products are made to break, so consumers keep purchasing.

occasionally i see cars with over 300k at the dealer. not uncommon. when ever people tamper with the odometer, they roll it down, not up.

had some friends that lived east of sanfran and drove to work everyday to san-jose. about 60 miles each way. like going from vancouver to chilliwak

vanLUDERCity 06-15-2010 04:31 PM

i mean as in, he could have done an engine swap and such so that number could be bogus

keitaro 06-15-2010 09:08 PM

For the past 3 years, I've been driving from Vancouver to Abbotsford. I am averaging about 20,000km a year just for the commute to work.

Doesn't the ECU reset when a new engine is put in?

Anyway I see your point. He had no reason to lie about it, pretty sure it's real. Plenty of Honda engines in the pass have far surpassed that mileage.

YK86 06-15-2010 09:51 PM

The ecu will reset any time you unplug the battery but it won't change the odometer. You can swap the engine 10 times and the odometer reading will remain the same.

tofu1413 06-15-2010 10:25 PM

i remember a guy with a third gen accord.. had a million K on it..?

LiquidTurbo 06-15-2010 10:42 PM

^ I had one. Those things were bulletproof. Body rusts out long before engine dies.

Si 06-16-2010 12:18 AM

Years back I remember hearing on Global News that Mike McCardell had an Accord with 600k+

There's a guy on 3geez.com whose family has an '86 Accord with over 1 million KM - they've made a couple trips to South America. My first '87 Accord was at 478,000 when I wrote it off.

The old Dodge Slant 6 motor was nearly indestructible. My dad bought a Dodge pickup brand new in '81 and put it out to pasture in '87 with over 450,000km on it. My sister had run it dry of oil once and it kept on going - was drinking a 4l jug just to get from Vancouver to our place near 100 Mile House, but it kept on going.

Only once ever saw a Slant 6 die, and that was in a '69 Valiant - guy threw a rod flying down the East-West Connector.

Remember the Canuckmobile, those guys that drove to and from New York for every game all through the '94 Finals?

XtC-604 06-16-2010 08:08 AM

i've seen some 4g and 3g accords with much much higher kms and all they ever needed were oil and timing belts lol

narfy 06-16-2010 08:37 AM

i've seen 4A corollas with half a million KMs on them, and they get the snot driven out of them... not surprised to see cars hit that type of mileage if they're well maintained...

that is actually a really good example of synthetic oil vs conventional oil... almost 0 wear wtih synthetic oil, whereas conventional oil would've turned an engine black by now... even if the oil was changed as per the manufacturers recommendation...

Mugen EvOlutioN 06-21-2010 08:24 AM

hoolly shit thats a lot for a DC5

ya if only honda could design a better and far more reliable tranny than i would have my hopes up.

2010 RDX with 42k ?? WHOA!!!!!

I did that commute for 6 months. Going to Abby in the morning was no big deal but the traffic from 176 to the bridge, coming home, was a fucking nightmare.

oldsnail 06-21-2010 10:38 AM

we have lots of prius taxis in victoria..
ive seen a few with over 500k's..
