^ ya I agree with this to some extent. You can still be skinny, play video games and get white girls. Have a good fashion sense, confident and humurous personality and you are good to go.

Do Asian women lean to white fellows? It's a question that constantly buzzes among Metro Vancouver's Asian community, says my Vancouver Sun colleague, reporter Vivian Luk.

Raised in East Vancouver, Luk says her large circle of Chinese friends often has a lively time discussing inter-racial dating preferences.

So far Luk has made her choice -- white boyfriend.

Luk, 22, a student in UBC's School of Journalism, says she generally confirms the views expressed by relationship specialist Ronald Lee in my column of last Friday. Lee said a lot of Canadian-Asian guys end up being awkward around women because they're taught by parents to focus obsessively on their educations and careers.

Even though many of her female friends have made different relationships choices, Luk likes men of the white persuasion because they tend to be more "outgoing, talkative and adventurous" than Asian-Canadian men she knows.

White males "are not afraid to try new things and to laugh at themselves. They're more outdoorsy. They're not staring at a computer all day," said Luk, after returning to The Sun's downtown office from researching a story on how Vancouver's ethnic Greek community responded to their team's World Cup soccer loss to Argentina.

Luk and many of her ethnic Chinese friends attended predominantly Asian David Thompson Secondary school, where they "assimilated" to Canadian culture while becoming fluent in both English and Cantonese. I appreciate her comments because, to me, dating and marriage choices are a crucial test of the success of Canadian multiculturalism. They suggest just how far people of different ethnicities are ready to move out of their cultural comfort zones to get to really know the so-called "Other."

Luk said one of the other reasons she prefers Caucasian males is she finds they're more likely to know how to fix a car, work with a hammer and take care of practical things.
In contrast, a lot of her Asian male friends are bookworms, she says. "They're really introverted. School comes first. They do really well in sciences and computers. They are really shy and awkward."

Although Luk didn't have a definitive answer on whether young Chinese women prefer to date white guys, she said the trendlines do seem clear for females of at least one other Asian ethnicity. "The word on the street," she said, "is that Japanese women definitely like to date white guys."

Did anyone else immediately look for Vivian Luk on facebook? Seems like a fun-loving girl :D

Cmon. I know how to fix a car & other practical shit as well as focus on my study while venturing into the world of cyberspace. But I haven't talked to a white girl in over 10 years.

I prefer my Asian bookworm guy to pay for a mechanic to fix the car or other so called practical things than to do it himself so he has time to do other stuff. Heh.

girls are attracted to confidence, and a lot of asian males don't exude confidence

theres a lot more asian guys with white girls these days man! have u guys gone to the mall haha
to add, i also noticed that white guys who date asian girls often seem to have difficulties getting white women...go figure

I think it's just the newer generation where many different races mix, and I think that's great because there will be a less emphasis on race in the future. Everybody will be equal because they're all mixed. I am not sure how long that will take but a man can dream...

Plus mixed girls are just sooo much hotter :P

Just wondering, do ppl still emphasize on race in the corporate ladder? Mid level managements r pretty well mixed but senior managements are still mostly white ppl.

its about the individual, not the ethnicity

GREAT POINT! I can totally see how you derived fat, asocial and unable to interact with people based off of my my comment about money. Cause every guy whose rich is fat, asocial and unable to interact with people. Especially if they are Hispanic! You see what i did there?

Also, I'm not condoning it by any means, but in reality money really DOES make up for all those things for a significant amount of women around the world... including many in Vancouver.
