That said, having owned both, there's no doubt that the BMW requires more work and costs more than a Japanese econo-box. That's off-putting for some, even if the BMW is more fun to drive.)

Honestly, I think we're agreeing on most parts here; the main difference we're bickering over is whether or not to spend all of their money. Personally, I like having a little bit of "just in case" money, but that's just me.


The thing that's always irked me are the people who go into every "what car should I look at" thread and suggest buying *insert Honda product here* (fanboys). There's nothing wrong with Honda, but they're not the bestest fastest badest practicalist fit-every-need import vehicle evar.

Hondas aren't always the best choice.. but you have to admit: a lot of the times, they are. It's always good to keep your options open, but for a lot of people, price, reliability, maintenance, and resale value all come together very well in a number of honda/acrua offerings.

i've owned both of these cars. close to 180,000km on both. only thing we've changed is the tires. lol.

soft ride. comfy.reliable.fast enough.great on gas.

The EL is painfully slow in automatic, so I dunno if it'll meet his definition of "fun". The Accord would be a great car for the OP though, based on his criteria anyway.

I agree with this. Not the best car in terms of price or driving experience, but it offers a combination of great build quality, reliability, and is (usually) a pleasantly fun car to drive.

But I also agree with Dentz in that a person should not limit their list to Honda's only. You can definitely get a car that's nearly as reliable and probably just as much fun for a lot less money if you're willing to look at Mazda's, Nissan's, BMW's, etc.

Something I forgot to mention earlier... I would normally suggest avoiding automatic transmissions in general. Unless you have a long commute, manual tranny generally means a faster, "sportier" car with far less chance of tranny problems. (A clutch is relatively simple to replace, an auto tranny... not so much). Obviously the car's mileage will play a role in the manual/auto decision as well.

very hard to find an e36 m3 for 8000 or less. There was one for sale in kamloops or something for $8000. Lowest i've scene and from i've heard its TRASH.

No way. There's a price floor for M3's of any generation, and I highly doubt you'll find a decent e36 m3 for under $10k ever. Hell, e30's are worth more than that.

e36 328is would be the best 3-series you might see under $8k, imo, although I'm not sure I'd want a high-mileage/poorly-maintained one (which is no doubt what you'd get for that price).
