maybe they were butchering a live cow in the back... | Han Woo Ri is awesome. Go there for BBQ.
If I'm just sticking with korean stuff, I normally go to this place on broadway and main + this place on West 4th and Cypress.
I forget their names though.

The one next to No9 sucks balls.
The worst slowest service I ever had and they were not busy there was no justification and no apology when I complained about it we were only one table of six that were there at the time. The waitresses were just lazy and left tables an absolute mess from previous patrons. It took them 10 minutes just to get me my bill when we wanted to leave.

I had the opportunity to go to Han Woo Ri near on Imperial near Kingsway last week. Saturday night, went around 8:30 and the place was packed with a wait! Must be good if it's this busy.
A group of 5 of us were starving after wrenching on cars all day in the hot sun. Ordered one of the BBQ combos along with 3 different stews and some fried gyozas.
Service was excellent. Although language is a bit of a barrier, they are very attentive and polite. In fact, there was a fight there between two neighbouring parties which resulted in a shouting match between some Fob hongers and some fob koreans. Was fun to watch. One of the servers came over to each table and apologized for the scene which was nice.
As for the food, The barbecue meat was a bit tough and wasn't as flavourful I'm accustomed to. The stews come in individual servings but can be shared as small portions. I particularly liked the Kimchi beef stew. The gyozas came fried and were battered really nicely. I definitely recommend them.
All-in-all, it's a decent place. I would go again but not so much for the food but rather to get decent service at a Korean place.

The dinner is not the money imo, late night cost 30% less and there are only 2-4 less things compared to the dinner menu.
Your clothes and your car will smell really bad after the meal, so wear stuff that you don't give a shit about.

Kev | Talking about this Han Woo Ri place I had some ridicules experience there with my friends.
About 2 years ago a group of us went there for a Birthday Dinner.
At first service was not bad with this Korean Girl serving us. After the food came we rang the bell few times (We waited good few minutes before we rang the bell again) because they never came. So after a long wait someone finally came to serve us and we asked for some chopstick (We were short a pair which they should have given us in the first place) and asked for some more tea. We were very polite the whole time and even felt somewhat embarrassed that we had to ring the bell so many times because they never came (and it wasn't that busy at all).
So after we were done eating we politely told them that we would like to have the Birthday cake now (which we gave them to store it in the freezer for us when we first arrived). This is when it all went wrong.
The girl simply brought the bag with the cake still in the bag and put it on the table beside us. Now what does this suppose to mean? She wants us to leave? We were all kinda shocked when waitress quickly left. So after a few moments we told each other wtf was that? normally when we said we would like to have the cake now means the table will be at least cleaned up somehow so that we have some space to eat the cake.
So, we had to ring the bell again and and kindly ask them to clean up the table so that we can eat the cake. Now, this time this Korean dude came up to us and when we asked him if he could clean the table a bit so that we could eat the cake, he gave us this "WTF, are you out of your mind" look like we are asking him to close down the restaurant or something. Then he mumble something in korean and "cleaning" our table. By "cleaning" he literally furiously threw our plates and dishes into his garbage tray on the cart with such force that's making this "bang bang" sounds which made us really uncomfortable. Also, his raging facial expressing didn't make things easier. So, not wanting to causing more "work" for them we grab the cake from the next table ourselves and unpack the cake. Now we didn't get any plates or forks for the cake and we again had to ring the bell but now they seem to just completely ignoring us on purpose. So I had to go up to them and ask for the plates and forks.
After this disaster dinner none of us where happy with their "service" so we all agreed to not give them any tips. But we didn't want them to think we are some cheap asses like themselves so we wrote on the receipt "Bad Service". So we paid and we were out the door but we were chilling a little bit in front of the entrance to decide where our next destination is. Now, what happens next is the most ridicules thing have experienced from a restaurant. This korean dude came storming out opened the door and crumbled the receipt on which we wrote "bad service" and then proceed to throw it at us.
Now wtf is this shit? They can't take it when ppl let them know what they did not do so well? I mean the service was BAD obviously and they still expect ppl to give them tips? And they get by everytime they don't leave tips?
Sorry for my huge ass story but it just pisses me off everytime someone mentions Han Woo Ri.

i like the place near Broadway and Granville. i believe it was called seoul house. the meat is really well marinated. Service isn't bad, but i think that is only because i go there during slow hours. Although they have sticky and old looking floors.

bumping a pretty old thread but anyone have any new suggestsion for good Korean BBQ? Doesn't necessarily have to be AYCE just some good quality korean bbq.
Will also check out some of the ones listed in this thread (but 6 years old so wondering if things have changed)

There was a small place in "korean town" on north road Burcoquitlam.

I like Royal Seoul on west broadway by alder. Normally go there for family bdays. Never had a problem w/ service. We usually order the house special combo for 6. The portions are pretty big.. It comes with soup, japchae, korean seafood pancakes, gyozas, salad and a platter with a variety of seafood/meats. Mightve forgot to mention one dish from the combo though
I always end up in a coma every time we have dinner there. Lol. It's a very spacious restaurant and the food is good
