| List of placing overcharging after HST
Please keep this thread clean, any opinions on the HST can be said in the numerous HST threads. Moderators, can you please delete any posts that don't stay on topic. (and please edit the title, damn Firefox spelling autocorrect )
This thread is a list of places that are charging more than the extra 7% or 12%. Here is a link to compare what the increase should be: http://hst.blog.gov.bc.ca/wp-content...T_List_v04.pdf
My first example is Quiznos:
A large Honey Bacon Club combo (chips and drink) used to be $9.95 taxes inc.
The same meal was $11.17 today.
That is a 12% increase, not a 7% increase. GST was charged on restaurant meals previously.

I heard many restaurants had to raise their price because their cost of operation had increased, but i'm not sure how accurate those statements are.

Speaking of HST. I had an argument with my gf the other day because I refused to pay 10% tips. My gf insisted that I'm punishing the owner by paying less tips. I said since they can claim 12% (vs 5% from before), they cost actually got lowered. If we pay the usual 10% tips, they get more money both from government AND consumers. Needless to say my gf didnt buy it.

for example, a $10,000+GST/PST equipment used to have net cost of $10,700 (10K+PST), after HST, their net cost is only $10,000 (7% less), since GST&HST are refundable for businesses.

Sure, their costs might have lowered with the introduction of HST, but nobody said businesses have to pass those savings on to the customer...

Now I don't know if this is really on topic but I went to Pho Hoa out of desperation the other day and when I went to pay it was $8.96 for 1 bowl of large Tai Bo Vien. In my mind I was like holy crap did you guys raise your prices on top of HST or what? Even the most expensive pho for a large is usually like $6something maybe $7 flat.

$9.95 inc 5% GST == $9.48 before tax
$11.17 inc 12% HST == $9.97 before tax
Thus Quiznos added a $0.50 increase hoping most dumb customers would just blame it on the HST. Considering the responses thus far showcasing lack of math skill, I think there'll be a lot of businesses taking advantage of math dumb customers.

Its sorta funny watching the anti hst ppl on tv talking about how everything is gonna be more expensive. They start listing stuff that had both pst and gst before anyways so the prices should be the same..

Well, McD jacked up their pre-tax price by 30 cents, but I dunno if it has to do with HST or just inflation.

Example:
June 30: $9.48 + 5% GST = $9.95
July 1: $9.48 + more than just 12% tax = $11.17
I think you should edit your original post and say something like "places that raised prices post-HST".

Say the meal is 10 so after tax is like 11.20 so if you want to pay 10% tip u only need to pay $1 not $1.12(close to it anyways). So the amount of tips you pay should stay the same.
