Where to Dump Old TV (CRT)

I have a fairly large 45" - 50" or so crt tv, just wondering where i can dump it for free... or if soemone is willing to pay for taking in old tvs, that would be even better...
the tubes in the tv are fked and has been repaired 3 times and we dont want to hassle with it anymore

if anyone reading this thread is interested in the tv (tubes are messed up inside), you can come grab it from my house ASAP anytime night or day

i think you can just put it out like normal trash. even if they don't take it you might get lucky and get scrapper to take it if you leave a "for free" note.
just wondering why u still using the old style tube tv's? LCD/Plasma's are the best and not even that expensive

CRT tube style TV's are still better in many aspects including picture quality. At EVO 2010 video gaming championships they were using CRT's still.

Post it on RS saying you are giving the TV for free. As long as it works I am sure some cheapo will take it lol.

Or try carglist.

Have been living under a rock? Hate to break it to you but those old style TV's can't display high resolution like 1080i/p.

Should get your facts straight or at least go to avsforums and read a bit.

If it's something that no one is ever going to use, or if it's broken, don't be a douche by dropping it off at the thrift store. Drop it off at the recycling depot.

The only way to guarantee your electronics are recycled responsibly (i.e not sent overseas to China) is dropping them off at a Return-It site.

Encorp.ca for locations.

Do you really think Manic's posting, giving an example of an old style TV that can display 1080i, is intended for the OP?

not sure if it belongs to era or not, but the location right beside the south vancouver depot return. i tried there to recycle my old tv, and the old man there working said he charges $10+ depending on tv size for handling fee.

what i find most disturbing was that they had a truck for recycling and donation. i thought recycling would be free, and if not at least take the tv for donation. i think he just wanted to pocket the money himself.

That tv you referenced is not a mass produced model and certainly not you average CRT old tube style tv which I was referring to.
I'm guessing 95% of CRT tube tv's aren't 1080i/p compatible.
And for what its worth its only 1080i which is inferior to 1080p
