Nikon d3100

■continuous AF in video mode/live view (yes, that’s right – it seems that the continuous AF I mention earlier today will first be introduced in the upcoming Nikon D3100)

■10 MP CMOS sensor
■HD video: 1080p/24 and 720p 30/24!
■AVCHD video codec
■In camera video editing capabilities
■3fps (same as D3000)
■will be sold in a kit with the 18-55mm lens
■expected announcement in “few weeks”
■no swivel display

I guess kinda in a good direction, but according to the site no d700 upgrade this year. D90 should look intresting though.

and it's official

The new features on the D3100 give a good sense of what the next few dSLRs from Nikon will be like, and that's certainly exciting for a lot of people. For me, though, the lenses that are coming are more interesting and I'm definitely keeping an eye on that 24-120/4 VR lens which a lot of us Nikon shooters have been dying to get for our film/FX cameras.

Good job Nikon!

the 4th lens is a DX 55-300 VR lens that I don't quite understand the purpose of - you have a 55-200 and a 70-300 already, why this lens? Oh well.

It's very interesting to see how Nikon's 24-120 and 28-300 are so much smaller than Canon's equivalent... let's hope the optical performance will be the same, or better.

Now sign me up for one of those 85/1.4s and 24-120/4s! :)

Meowjin 08-18-2010 10:18 PM

i'm definitely interested in that 24-120.

body is 700 us on AMAZON.

Also I need money. Been cameraless for almost a year now :(

Meowjin 08-18-2010 10:23 PM

also consumer lenses are their BNB in terms of profit. Nikon did not do very good through the recession. Even though they were leading camera sales. What fucked them was their medical imaging division I believe and their microswitches.

Bonjour43MA 08-18-2010 10:48 PM

What happened to your D300s?

Meowjin 08-19-2010 02:25 AM

I've been fighting debt for a while, I just havn't been working as much as school has bogged me down, and I've quit a job that was paying 1k a week, so my income has gone to the shits.

c3m 08-19-2010 05:43 AM

D3100 uses the same sensor as Sony NEX

LiquidTurbo 08-19-2010 06:18 AM

The 28-300 looks amazing! Will that be the killer lens for full frames? Full frame gets a versatile equivalent of the 18-200 on the DX..

Hehe 08-19-2010 12:01 PM

I think the 28-300 will become the ultimate travel lens.

My future travel kit--> 28-300 VR+50mm F1.4... :D

But I might check on Tamron's 28-300, the Nikon one is like 710G?!? A hefty lens for its intention.

LiquidTurbo 08-19-2010 08:59 PM

Nikon needs to step up their game. This camera is nice.. but. where's the upgrade to the D90? the D700?

bcedhk 08-25-2010 11:32 AM

Nikonrumor said D90 will be replaced with a camera called the D7000 .. magnesium body and HD video !

gilly 08-31-2010 12:36 PM

cant wait. 1080p video recording lol

gilly 08-31-2010 01:02 PM

K PRICING is out for Nokia d3100. Costs $700 at bestbuy

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...b553d9c990en02

Nikon D5000 is $680 at broadway camera

Which one should i get?

IMASA 08-31-2010 03:00 PM

You mean Nikon D3100 right? Of those 2, hands down the D3100. Even though it's an entry level camera, it's currently the "best" DX format Nikon makes right now, though this will surely change in the next couple of weeks.

1exotic 08-31-2010 06:09 PM

not bad for the price, but the video isn't that great compared to canon 60D/7D/T2i

Presumably the new 55-300 lens will mean the 70-300mm one is going to be phased out?

I'm actually pretty excited about the new 55-300mm VR... I have the 55-200 right now and I'm itching for more telephoto capabilities, so I'll probably sell it and buy the new 55-300 as an alternative. Looks like it will be about $400?

It also means the 70-300 lens will probably drop in price....

IMASA 09-02-2010 12:35 PM

More like the 55-200 VR will be phased out. The 70-300mm VR is a FX lens, while the 55-300 VR is DX.

Oh. I see. Doesn't the 70-300 work with both DX and FX?

Nice little review here. http://digitalrev.com/en/nikon-d3100...4-article.html

Yes it does..

GodZilla 05-30-2011 11:45 AM

I am just wondering since this has been out awhile, is this still a nice entry level DSLR camera to buy?
I am use to a point and shoot and want a upgrade and have read lots of reviews on the D3100. I just wanted some opinions from people on this site and there thoughts as to what they think about the D3100.

Thanks
