I was in Calgary last week and gas stayed at 91.9 the whole time but from my account, that's pretty much the only thing they have over us aside from no PST.
edit: OK, they have a Red Lobster. hahaha

it's naturally aspired so it could probably take 91, but I just take 94 since it's only a few cent difference.

;-l | Mark 4 Supra has a 70L Tank so lets say gas is 1.19 it would be $83.30 to fill up from being empty. To cost 134 bucks to fill up it would mean 94 octane cost 1.92/L I call bullshit.
My fill ups cost roughly 45-60 depending on how i drove during that tank (i.e. hwy, and what gear i usually drove in). I get 450 - 500 KM a tank.

Why does it "suck" for you? Maybe one of the following:
- You live in a subdivision in a suburb that is far away from a major access road (e.g. Does it make economical sense to run express buses from No. 9 road to Downtown Vancouver?)
- You work in a place that is difficult to get to, no matter what method of transportation (e.g. Langley to Pitt Meadows)
- You have taken public transportation in other parts of the world (e.g. Hong Kong) which have great systems, but they also have the funding, the densities, and the political will to support and build those systems
Skytrain is packed every day and the 99 B-Line is beyond capacity. A lot of people take public transit, but you can't build systems overnight because of the lack of funding sources, NIMBYism, political fighting, etc.

Taxes are not the sole reason for price increases, and the dollar has not "devalued" compared to where it was 10 or 20 years ago. Par was unthinkable in the early 90s--yet prices have not hugely dropped when looking at percentage differences on cars or electronics.
And I'm pretty sure it's not the Government buying up all the new housing developments (olympic village being the exception) driving up the prices.
So tell me, how are your laziness, dollar valuation comparing the last two decades, and real-estate speculator-based pseudobubbles controlled by the government? Posted via RS Mobile |

The closest one to here is in Lynnwood, WA, which is about an hour from the border. If they opened one up in Bellingham, it'd probably do well.

Skytrain is packed every day and the 99 B-Line is beyond capacity. A lot of people take public transit, but you can't build systems overnight because of the lack of funding sources, NIMBYism, political fighting, etc. | I strongly disagree with everything you said!!
1. In a developed city + port like Vancouver, you are required to have a very efficient and complete transportation system. If you build a road you MUST have public transportation there. In your example, I don't see why won't it make sense to have a bus route from No.9 road to DT "IF" there is a need eg. high population working in dt, business needs.
2. Office/work place usually don't be isolated at one place. If you work in an office, pretty you'll have many others around your area. Even if you work at a farm, you'll have many others around you. In that case, shouldn't there be public transportation access to that place as not an individual but many need access to that location?
3. Many countries including HK do not get funding from govt. They are separate companies. they only have investor which include the hk govt. and in most case, they are in loan. Thus, most of their money come from their revenue. I must admit HK transportation cost is fairly high but the services they provide is very efficient. How long it takes you to commute from let say langley to DT? 1 to 2hr? In HK, the same distance will probably take you at least half the time. Remember, time is money! If the country wants it economy to grow, speed up people's lifestyle!
4. 99B is always in high traffic because they have low frequency. In rush hours, many buses skipped their stops as they are so packed. If that's the case, should the buses come 2 buses at a time to reduce that stress. How often here in Vancouver do you hear student complain that they missed their bus because it is so packed they cant get on the bus or that they have to get on an earlier bus just not to be late? VERY OFTEN!!
5. Please stop that crap about no money and funding and all that crap. You have no idea haw much money they are making in translink. not saying the people salary but the company itself. You have any idea how many properties and investments they own? Maybe they are not getting much profit from their business due to low ridership but that don't mean they are not making money. They are filthy pigs!!

Posted via RS Mobile | Govt dont control the high prices but ehy do control the taxt rate. And tax rate directly affect the cost for manufacturer and supplier and in turn affect the prices of our goods. Now you may argue that the cost for raw materials is not controlled by govt but indeed they are. Regulations set by govt restrict the amt of resources produced or taken from nature each day eg oil/ trees. that is reflected on the supply rate in the world market and in turn changes the price.

Also, the tax rate set by govt influences the wants to buy houses. Its all about demand and supply. Every step the govt takes, changes the price of something in the society.

Who's complaining about minimal wage? I make more than the avg Canadian household so I can care less. I merely stated that it was set by the goverment. Devaluation is still a factor, regardless of historic inflation rates. Who controls inflation? Government. Factor in ultra low interest rates(BoC) and easy lending standards of 0/40 5/35 (CMHC) and mainstream media telling everyone to buy now or be priced out and you have yourself a huge real estate bubble nationwide.
Electronics is in a league of it's own. Prices dropped due to globalization and minimal government involvement which allowed the free market to work itself out. None of that bailout BS.
My arguement is someone said it is not the governments fault that the cost of living is extremely high. In your opinion, who's fault is it?
