1. In a developed city + port like Vancouver, you are required to have a very efficient and complete transportation system. If you build a road you MUST have public transportation there. In your example, I don't see why won't it make sense to have a bus route from No.9 road to DT "IF" there is a need eg. high population working in dt, business needs. | That's not the point I was trying to make. My point was that if you live in an isolated area, it doesn't really make sense for any organization to run service that won't break even. Quote:
3. Many countries including HK do not get funding from govt. They are separate companies. they only have investor which include the hk govt. and in most case, they are in loan. Thus, most of their money come from their revenue. I must admit HK transportation cost is fairly high but the services they provide is very efficient. How long it takes you to commute from let say langley to DT? 1 to 2hr? In HK, the same distance will probably take you at least half the time. Remember, time is money! If the country wants it economy to grow, speed up people's lifestyle!
| The HK MTR Corporation only became private recently. It was funded by the British government since the 1970s until the handover and it routinely ran deficits.
Now, the MTR uses real estate and retail to spur customer demand on its transit lines. Translink has the power to do the same thing, but you can be sure that if Translink were to start building high-density at its stations, people would be opposed. Quote:
4. 99B is always in high traffic because they have low frequency. In rush hours, many buses skipped their stops as they are so packed. If that's the case, should the buses come 2 buses at a time to reduce that stress. How often here in Vancouver do you hear student complain that they missed their bus because it is so packed they cant get on the bus or that they have to get on an earlier bus just not to be late? VERY OFTEN!!
| The B-Line theoretically runs every 2-3 minutes during rush hour. However, you can only pack so many vehicles on Broadway - it is simply at capacity. Skytrain to UBC is the best solution, but there are a number of residents and businesses who are opposed to common sense. Google BARSTA. Quote:
5. Please stop that crap about no money and funding and all that crap. You have no idea haw much money they are making in translink. not saying the people salary but the company itself. You have any idea how many properties and investments they own? Maybe they are not getting much profit from their business due to low ridership but that don't mean they are not making money. They are filthy pigs!!
| Yes, they own property, but as far as I know, they aren't building any real estate or commercial developments on those properties. I would like to see some links.

Sorry but the government is at fault. Since the government ownes (monopoly) the main companies in BC (icbc, translink, bchydro, etc.) it can raise or lower rates as it wishes. The greedy Libs TOOK +- $800 million from icbc instead of just lowering out premiums for insurance. Instead they gave us a pat on the head, sort of speak, 1.8% reductions for insurance. Now that is a joke, because we the people just take it in the ass and brush it off.
They see that gas prices go up then they should lower the taxes so that the people can still afford their budgets and still save money for rainy days. It is not people living beyond their needs, it is the government adjusting and being flexible to the constantly changing economy, people needs and wants, etc.
Unfortunately the government in Canada on both ends (prov. & fed.) suck ass and there needs to be a huge change. In most countries the government is scared of the people (crippling strikes) so those governments are forced to work with the people. In BC, the government laughs at the people and says lets add another tax.

the funny thing is...
BC government complains about drugs and illegal activities. But they don't do much to drop the crime rate since it is mostly the drug dealers who spend the most money here in Vancouver which equals tax money and equals government profit. Plus, they say they need to increase population and businesses to increase the economy here in Canada. The thing is, although the population is rising at a slow rate here, they can't expect the population and economy to rise at a significant rate when they raise taxes and create the most unaffordable lifestyle (things being too expensive). If they want more companies established in B.C. they need to increase the population more but in my opinion the B.C. government isn't willing to do what it takes to raise the economy or population. Basically, they say they want this or that but don't take it into action.

You need a tonne of money, a tonne of political will (or simply a series of decision-makers who are willing to bulldoze the opposition), and financial incentives/disincentives to make transportation (public and private) better. Quote:

| One could always join a political party or create a new one and try to sell your vision of society to the general public. Or, you could try to influence governments covertly by working for a think-tank like the Fraser Institute or the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. Or, better yet, you could become a businessman (a real big one like Jimmy Pattison) and throw your weight and money around.
