METRO VANCOUVER — An 18-year-old man caught on surveillance video writing racially inflammatory graffiti aimed at people of Chinese origin, as well as derogatory comments toward police, on the wall of the Empire Centre parkade in Richmond was arrested Wednesday, RCMP said today. The graffiti was reported to the Richmond RCMP on July 22; the security camera filmed the incident the previous night. Wednesday at 3 p.m. during the course of the investigation members of Richmond RCMP’s Bike Section located the male during their patrols of the Empire Center parkade, RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said in a press release. The male was positively identified by officers and was arrested as he tried to flee the parkade, she said. The male was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 14. Police are recommending a charge of mischief.
