mb_ 05-28-2013 04:16 PM

Bump from 3 years ago.. lol. Of course it'd be Jgresch to start a thread like this :p buuuuuut...

Any shops/dealers looking for an apprentice? Would also consider service advisor although I don't have any previous experience with that, I've worked a few jobs that required customer service

Jgresch 05-28-2013 04:41 PM

Wow so long ago lol good old days.

bcrdukes 05-28-2013 04:42 PM

A little late, but Nixon Automotive (BMW) and Blitzkrieg Autowerkes (Porsche / VW Audi) was hiring for an apprentice mechanic several weeks ago. Maybe not too late to apply. Autowest BMW is hiring a licensed mechanic (not sure what the difference is between that and an apprentice.)

Applied at first 2 yesterday and a few other shops, only one that got back to me was Grand Performance (RS Sponsor!) but unfortunately no job opening :(

apprenticeship = legal contract for apprentice to be trained while working, and they are required to go to school for the x number of years @ a % of what a licensed tech would make.

a licensed mechanic is someone that has gone to school, got their ticket, and is licensed (a tradesman) in the automotive mechanical field.

our apprentices have legal contracts with the company. they are required to go to school, pass, and with every year of advancement their pay goes up.

mechanical technician is like every other trade out there, carpentry, draftsman, plumbing... all start off as an apprentice, then journeyman, then so on and so forth.

ok

Got my result today and miraculously passed haha. That was honestly a hard fucking test - thought I would have to re-write it. You go to BCIT?

CorneringArtist 05-28-2013 07:53 PM

I'm looking to clear out of my dealership shop, lack of "actual" work to do is killing my skillset, and I just recently completed 2nd year. If anyone is looking for a 3rd-year with Toyota diagnostic experience, gimme a shout.

mb_, I failed my level 1 with a 67 the first time, it's all memory recall for those tests, and watching yourself on "good answer/better answer" questions.

mb_ 05-29-2013 03:29 PM

Honestly think I lucked out on that test, was so prepared for the worst outcome and having to re-write haha. Glad it worked out in the end but now it's time to seek for an apprenticeship. Can't be a lot attendant forever!

CorneringArtist 06-27-2013 09:50 AM

as long as it's above 70% it doesn't matter how well you did. just take the cert and run.

For me the situation is deteriorating at my dealership, techs mad that they're not getting hours or doing jobs that don't pay well enough to them are taking it out on me. People are beginning to hate each other even more as well. Does anyone deal with any ridiculous amounts of animosity at their own shops?

see.lai 06-27-2013 10:51 AM

I guess you can say, competition in the field eh. Just ignore them and do what you do best. Or if it bothers you that much, you could always find another place.

Good luck!

I've been running with the bullshit for a year now, and supposedly, what I do best isn't good enough for the people judging me. It's shifted goalposts constantly, and it's wearing incredibly thin.

jeffh 07-06-2013 07:11 PM

!SG 07-06-2013 08:32 PM

A lot of shops have tons of drama attached with them. My friend recently had to quit Ferrari because the drama was so bad . Sure its a great job, but some of the people made it hell to work at.

Any dealerships currently hiring????????????????????????

I work for Clarkdale VW, in the sales department as a inventory manager. We are always hiring for different positions. We are a very urban dealership and go above and beyond for customer service. Some positions that are probably hiring are sales greeter / service greeter / sales staff.

great place to work. :)
