Windows 7 Pro $29.99 for Students

One of my buddys just sent this to me so I thought Revscene deserves to know as well. It's only for students with a collage/university email, Which I don't have that I'm looking for LOL

hmm, I still have a school e-mail, I picked up Win7 64 for my laptop, has anyone used the same e-mail to get a copy of 64 and a copy of 32?

Yes, I bought 4 keys (with 2 different emails). Each email account you can buy a 32 and a 64 bit key and they are interchangeable (or in my case I used the 32 bit keys to install 64 bit windows 7) so long as they are the same edition (ie Windows 7 Pro).

wait a sec, so I could use my 64 bit key to install a copy of 32 bit onto my desktop without removing 64 bit from my laptop?

Nope. Your laptop's key should be registered with Microsoft and can't be used in another computer (and I think your laptop's key can't work with a desktop anyways, not sure)

but what I meant was, you can buy a Windows 7 32 bit key and use it to install a 64 bit Windows 7 on your desktop. Sorry for the confusion

no, he wants to use his key a second time to install 32 bit on a desktop computer, while still having a legit 64 bit running on his laptop. which is not possible because each key can only be used once, either for installing 32 bit or 64 bit.

veeh 08-12-2010 10:47 AM

Will this work as a full install?
The site says it's an upgrade edition?

underscore 08-12-2010 11:26 AM

^ yes. the trick I've posted before:

1) Install Win 7 from the DVD you download and burn.
2) Don't provide a CD key; you'll be running the Win7 Ultimate 30 day trial.
3) take out the DVD, restart
4) boot up, and put in the DVD. Run the Upgrade program, this time provide your CD key.
5) tada, you now have a full version of Win7, off a clean install.

you cannot upgrade from winxp or 32bit system -> 7 64bit.

it will do a clean install and upgrade after the install then activate

veeh 08-13-2010 01:21 PM

Gotcha! Thanks!
