I'm at McDonald park right now, and the meteors are really flying now - about one every minute. A really mice guy let me piggy back my camera on his telescope tracker so I'm making 10 minute exposures! Hopefully, I'll get somethng good...I haven't gotten any good shots with meteors yet. :(

I spent 10mins standing in my backyard and I saw at least 2.

But the lights from Surrey is too bright that it blocked half of the sky

My experience, you're better off with a wide angle to catch a larger area of the sky... even at 1/min, the odds of one hitting the tiny area of sky you're getting with 500mm are pretty remote.

Heck, last time I went shooting meteors, I was shooting at 17mm and still consistently missing them - wherever I pointed my camera, they'd always come down in the opposite quadrant. Move the camera around, they'd be in the quadrant I'd just left. :flamemad:

went with a bunch of friends last night to iona. We say quite a few - at least one every 2 minutes

Depends on your exposure time... I was trying anything from 2 minutes to 10 minutes... or until I saw too many of them going by out of the camera view and got frustrated and swung it around :)

I'm going to point my 11mm up into the sky and see what I get :p

Lol I was reaching for my cell phone to take a pic. Then I realized what a stupid idea that was. :p

Ikkaku 08-13-2010 03:16 PM

:lol I was watching at 3 Road and each time a meteor went by people sounded like they creamed themselves "oooOOHHHHH"

RabidRat 08-13-2010 03:47 PM

I heard a bunch of horses screaming.

That, my friend, is a plane. :p

Did you walk to the east of the main parking lot to where the Fraser Valley Astronomy Society members were with their huge-ass telescopes? Much better lighting conditions there, but the sky sucked last night due to the smokey haze. The area near the parking lot was crappy because there were too many cars coming and going, and too many stupid people using flashlights with white light.

Levitron 08-14-2010 12:41 AM

Was up at Cypress last night.

Anyone see this really slow moving object that showed up at around 5am? It drifted not in a totally straight line and was up there for about 5-10 minutes. Definitely not a plane or a helicopter.

J____ 08-14-2010 12:48 AM

ufo!
