Which version of Windows 7 do you have? If it's Starter then you're limited to 2GB. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...8VS.85%29.aspx |

it's Home Premium 64bit
and now with the extra ram, it's showing 3gb, instead of 6...
so when i install 4gb, it'll show 2, when i install 6, it'll show 3...

Is the RAM compatible with your board? Try a BIOS update.

it's the most up to date bios... and I've never had this problem before...
this is basically an old build, but the PS died on me.... and now that i reinstalled windows 7 (had xp before), this is happening... it's super weird...

I'm guessing it's to do with the OS being 32 bit and the memory allocation for other devices.

ummm... I didn't post the solution because I felt sooo stupid...
I originally thought my RAM was 2x2GB, but in reality.. it was actually 2x1GB.....
I spent all this time, and wasted all YOUR time for nothing. I really should just read the labels on the stick.... |

I'm sure most other techie's on here have done similar stuff. I've spent an afternoon searching for a solution as to why I couldn't find my fourth hard drive. I hooked it up, gave it power, but forgot to map it though windows afterwards.

I was away from this computer for like 2 years... completely forgot how much Ram i had originally purchased.
I know it's pretty standard for computers 2 have 4gb ram, so I automatically assumed I had 4, not remembering that XP was around when I first bought this computer... and that I only had 2...

With dual channel memory kits it's quite easy to make a mistake, because some are marked with the capacity of the kit, not the stick. A 2GB kit can be marked with a 2GB label on each stick.
