Free from the Canadian Forces and retrofitted for police use.

and IHIT stands for Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (ie: homicide detectives). The RCMP's ERT - Emergency Responste Team (the 'SWAT' team) would be using these armoured vehicles.
Isn't that like the one in GTA:SA?

maybe they can use it if HK tourists get held hostage on a tour bus by a former cop with a grudge.

Should be used as an ice cream truck in the mean time to recoup some of it's cost.

if the bad guys around these parts have RPGs, we have a lot more issues on our hands than the VPD spending $350k on an armoured truck.

as an aside, do we know how an RPG works? Shaped charges and all that? Way more than just a hand grenade on a bottle rocket.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Vancouver Police Department is showing off its brand new $350,000 armoured rescue vehicle. Police only plan on using it for high-risk situations.

The Armoured Rescue Vehicle (ARV) weighs close to 30,000 lbs. and it's bullet-proof.

Deputy Chief Adam Palmer says he wishes the Emergency Response Team had this massive truck in 2005, when a man with a shotgun was perched on the Lions Gate Bridge. "During the standoff, the man fired, pulled his weapon over the guard rail and passed the barrel across the location of where the officers were standing. In this situation, the ARV would have provided a safe haven for both the citizens on the bridge as well as responding officers."

Palmer explains the ARV will also be used for kidnappings and when police are arresting someone with a high-calibre weapon.

Think of how many people you could cram into the back and beat at Stanley Park.

With those walls, no one would hear them scream.

I saw this vehicle about 6 or 7 years ago. It was white in colour, and VPD was using it to scare and away and chase firecracker kids on Halloween night.

ha.

on a related note, the elevator at the 312 Main St police station used to lead up to the jail at the top (jail is now across the street). there were no cameras in the elevator. criminals used to fear that elevator ride for good reason.

Unless it's a hostage taking situation, with the hostage-taker demanding a ransom of $349,999.99
