Don't forget about Spaces (multiple desktops). You can set that up in your system preferences.

3 finger-swipe up/down = home/end in browser if it's turned on in system prefs.

And I see ppl use it like Windows (ie. minimizing). Don't do that. Just swipe.

Mine hasn't been reboot in eons. I open the lid and it's ready to go.

Gigantic trackpad + multitouch make a big difference.

No antivirus

Are these differences worth the extra money?

For the current mbp..is the 15inch with the i5 processor and better video card really worth the extra 500 bux??

Is it that much different in everyday use?

There won't be any noticeable diffference for everyday computing, but if you're going to be using any sort of CPU & GPU intensive programs like photo/video editing, games like WoW, then yes, there will be a difference.

You have to take a look at what your own needs are and ask yourself if it's really worth it to you to buy a MBP, as yes, they are expensive, but in some cases, it's the only choice.

For me, the 17" 3.06 GHZ MBP was the only laptop that fit my needs, so I got one. I use it for work as a photographer, so it was the only laptop that fit my needs. No other 17" laptop was as thin (1" thick!), light (6.6lbs), powerful, Firewire 800 port, and had a matte screen option. Also, the colour gamut (number of colours & tones it can reproduce) of the screen is second to none - essential for photography. The colour rendition is like night & day compared to my HP 17" laptop - much better for showing clients.

The one thing my MBP lacks which my old 17" PC laptop had is an eSATA port, but that was remedied by buying an adapter that fits into the ExpressCard slot.

I can't imagine life without it. Seriously, once you get used to it, it's amazing how well it works.

I got the 13" macbook. Nice and portable.
15" and 17" is a little to much in size. Even though they have huge difference in processor.

im leaning towards to the 13inch based on my needs, dont really need the extra speed or better graphics, doesnt justify 600 dollars for myself, now im in no rush to get it, is there a good time where there might be deals or promo's of free ipod touches they give out like i've seen my friends get?

here's a tip, return it, buy a better PC and pocket the left over change. I used both, prefer PC much more as they're cheaper and better specs. Only thing i like about the mac is the unibody and looks.

Not really, as with the new unibody MB & MBP, it's quite easy to change the HD & RAM yourself if they crap out on you after the regular warranty runs out. With the older ones, it was very difficult to swap out the HD yourself, and if you broke anything like those one million little tabs securing the bottom plate to the body, it would very well end up costing you more for repairs.

Go to the Apple Canada website and browse the refurbished units. You can save about 15%.

Are you a student? The once a year promo just ended I think. Free iPod Touch (then sell it on CL) with purchase of a Macbook. It usually goes on all summer.

But education pricing goes on all year.

Where ever you buy the mac its roughly the same. I have a friend that just picked up the 13 inch one from the Mac store in Shanghai and she said she paid about the same but no tax.

Have fun with the Mac. Its a nicer and easier world to work in. Things actually work.

I think you can still get the $100 off for students just no free ipod.
I have iwork and office, I really like the look of iwork though over office, but yeah both I found off googling for torrents.
I use limewire just because it's what i've always used and i'm so used to the searching etc.

I think if you upload photos to FB iphoto is a must. When I was uploading RS summer meet pics I forgot to blur out plates after I already uploaded, I went back on iphoto blurred out plates and it took care of all the syncing for me. Love it lol

If you have a blackberry or iphone ical might be right for you, I like to keep everything sync'ed with my laptop so yeah I use that, contacts as well.

and as to J_____'s comment, I think the aluminum unibody really works wonders on making the mbp a solid laptop, I've dropped it numerous times (from about 2 ft) and it doesn't really have any scratches on it, sometimes i knock it off my bed and it hits the frame and it sounds scary but upon inspection, there really was no damage. Your typical FS/Best buy plastic laptop won't be able to take that kind of punishment and toughbooks are way out of this price range lol

Keep in mind also that you can sync (just like a PC) all your stuff with the google stuff, like the google calendar and google contact list if you want.
