| New to MAC. Tips?
So I gave in and bought a macbook due to curiosity.
Any tips and pointers to help the little learning curve?
What programs are a must?

I'm no Mac owner, but my girlfriend owns one, and I find that knowing the trackpad swipes and features really helps a lot!

um for msn i recommend using Adium and not MSN Messenger because A LOT of people I know (and myself included) have the problem where half of your messages don't go through / come through ... and when I first got Adium I got about 3 months worth of missed messages

Learn to use the trackpad. Three finger swipe is very useful.
Programs I recommend. Google chrome, works faster then safari and use less memory. iWork package > office, if you need it iWork is much easier to use, clean, simple, can save to .doc or .docx or even .pdf. Transmission for your torrents. Lightroom if your a big picture person. Can edit and organize your photos altho iPhoto isnt bad as well. Backup your mac via timemachine, very good backup program can go back on settings and files. Posted via RS Mobile |

There's a program called burn that works with a program called fire and I think it's great for Macs. The only down side is that you have to use it outside. The cost is a few cents for the basic version and up to to $20 If you want the butane version.

Depending on model you got. If you got a big enough harddrive I suggest installing win 7 via boot camp.
As much as I like mac side for my pictures/videos, a pc side still let's me play games Posted via RS Mobile |

Spotlight (CMD+SPACE) works wonders when you're looking for an app or document, or anything on your computer for that matter.

don forget mac the ripper! to back up your dvds and then get a nice version of toast to burn the dvds using the video_ts and audio_ts formats that mac the ripper generates.. and yes transmission is probably the best torrent client. yay mac

Carbon Copy Cloner for back-ups. More reliable than Time Machine. It's a free download too! Which Macbook did you get?

Sry to hijack but I have a couple quick questions regarding the current mbps.
Is there a big difference between the 2.4GHz, and the 2.53GHz i5 processors?
And also the 330M gfx, is it much of a difference between the 256mb and 512mb versions?
Are these differences worth the extra money?

+1 for not trying to hijack thread
But my current asus laptop is on the way to death so I'm gonna need a new one soon kinda torn between a regular windows laptop or get a macbook pro..
For the current mbp..is the 15inch with the i5 processor and better video card really worth the extra 500 bux??
Is it that much different in everyday use? Posted via RS Mobile |
