Dear teenagers: stop setting off those bottle rockets near my house and at other people. You're annoying, dangerous, and scaring the kids away. Dear Kids: please come to my house, I have candy.

Caught a teenager aiming at my house with what I thought was a bottle rocket from the street tonight. Told him he didnt want to aim at my house. He left and about 3 houses down was firing roman candles toward another house but I don't think he actually hit it. Just some punk kid showing off for his friends...

Halloween is dead in Vancouver. Parents choose to take their kids to malls to do trick or treating rather then taking their kids around their neighborhood. As years gone by, fewer and fewer kids come by, in the last 5 years, we've basically stopped giving candies out because rarely anyone comes by.

^Agree.

When we first moved to Canada 15 years ago my little sister and I brought home buckets of candy. Last year I took some family friends' kids and the majority of candy were the ones leftover from our house.

I blame this on the cheap fuckers who turn their lights off and watch TV in the basement. And the bastard parents who are too lazy to take their children out. They are usually the same families.

And they're usually not white. I can't say for sure, but if you go to a city with less "multiculturalism" the streets must be filled with dressed up children and their parents.

I remember back in gr 7 there was about 20 or so of us going trick or treating. Some of the houses got pissed off cuz we basically swarmed them.

Started giving out Candy from 5 and packed up shop at 8:45.

Just way to much rain today and only 25 kids came. I give pretty fat loots too as each kid I would give at least 3-4 pieces of Candy!!!

I wish there were more kids that would come by. I walked around my block and only saw 5 houses (including mine) that had their lights on and was giving out Candy.

^ Gotta remember the weather conditions this year though.

Most people in this weather would rather go to a mall and stay dry.

We bag our treats, 4-5 to a bag. When we bought our house the previous owners had already pre-bagged over 200 and left them for us to hand out (moved in Oct 30, 2009) so we followed suit. Good way to track / estimate how much you need.

2009 - 205 kids
2010 - 160 kids
2011 - 120 kids
2012 - 70 kids

It was raining this year, but we've definitely noticed a decline in our neighbourhood since we moved in.

I live 1 block away from an elementary school too and thought there would be alot of kids visiting. Put up some pumpkins and decorations earlier in mid Oct to get their attention.

I really blame the weather but IMO the Halloween spirit is not what it use to be when I was a kid.

It's safer for kids to go to the mall, but that's not the real trick-or-treating experience. People's attitudes towards opening the door to strangers has changed too... so many factors contributing to the decline in Halloween spirit!

I saw soooooo many kids at the mall........my friend was dressed up as Hello Kitty in richmond centre and we spent an hour walking from White Spot to Tim Hortons. Got mobbed so badly by parents wanting pictures.

When I was a kid, our neighbourhood was PACKED with kids. For hours in the night, you'd see costumes, flash lights and families putting on fireworks displays.

We didn't have all this freaky shit that goes on these days back then though. We didn't have murders every other week back then and drive-by shootings as commonly as we do now.

It's safer to go to family and known friends or to somewhere like the mall I suppose. Halloween is on a decline.

hmm, I've been wondering about that too. Although I think I'm too old to care any more, but it sure did seem more lively on Halloween.

And the weather definitely didn't help.

Took my nephew out, tonight. Yea, not many houses as I remember. Only got one bag. I used to get 2 filled safeways bags.

The rain did suck, though. Could have walked more blocks, but wouldn't be worth it as finding a house on the block could be like picking a roulette number on the track.

I agree the Halloween is dead in Vancouver when I was a kid back in gr6 or 7 I would go treat or tricking and get bags and bags of candies. Pretty much everyone in my area are giving out candies....... Also I always go alone when I was little coz it was pretty safe.

Now I look at my block there is like no one giving out candies -_- I actually bought a bag to give out but is so depressing when no one comes I just ate them lol.
They were good candies too!

+1 for dead Halloween

last year only 30or so kids showed up supposedly this year there was even less

When I was a kid every kid would be out trick or treating to like 10-11-even 12pm and we wouldn't just stick around our block we would basically canvas the entire city

and there would only be like 1 or 2 houses that wouldn't be giving candies and there was 1 guy who would give comic books away bad idea for him though since the kids wouldn't leave and would linger just to look through his comics
