In the 90s, there were alot more families giving out candies. Many kids were out on the streets with costumes. You would see alot more parents bringing their toddlers around and other parents socializing with one another. Houses on my blocks were mostly lit, and available to give out candies. Nowadays, I can count the number of houses giving out candies on my block with 1 hand. It was a far better social atmosphere back then, then it is now.

Like someone else mentioned, it's a number of reasons and it doesnt come down to one.

Yeah Halloween is definitely dying down, each year, it progressively gets worse. Took my step son out yesterday. Barely any kids out and many houses on our block had their lights off. Seems like the mall is the place to go to get candy but I think it's lame. Halloween is about going to each house. It also didn't help that it was raining.

It's really sad, I remember being a kid there was kdis everywhere trick or treating. awesoeme costumes and its like they really cared. Now theres hardley any kids and when they show up its in just a mask.

It's like halloween is for the adults these days the exact same ones who enjoyed it being a kid.

Superstore had these packs that had dollar off coupon stuck to the box. Read the fine print and it stated expires, October 31, 2012. I was like,

A few of us shoppers were wondering if we could get away with it. One of them volunteered to check it out. Sure enough, cashier didn't bother reading the fine print. Score!!

:score: <------ we need a "score!" smilie, LOL.

All 100+ boxes were gone in minutes. Discount, plus $1 off coupon = mayhem.

So true. Thats how I remember it. Now that I'm a lot older and giving candy out, no one wants candy?! Last year, less than a handful came by. So this year, I haven't bothered.

I remember at times running house to house, so I would catch up to other kids and not have to ring the door bell hahahah.

Some of the best memories I have was when I went home with bags of chips and full size chocolate bars!!

When I was a kid and trick-or-treated (about 15 years ago) almost every single house on my street and the 2 streets adjacent gave out candy.

When I drove away last night(7ish), I saw maybe 30% of those houses were lit. It's really sad knowing that this is dying out.. Especially considering I will DEFINITELY be taking my kids outside in the dark/rain to trick-or-treat when I have kids.. (10 years )

i would say about 7 years ago in my Halloween/trick or treat faze me and my family would go out, my mom and my dad even dressed up and we would go out with pillow cases, my brother, sister and myself wouldnt stop until they were filled, it was that was since i could remember not only for my family but for everyone in the neighborhood.

last night maybe 15 kids came to my place, not many houses are decorated locally, seems like its all died down

My parents don't even bother buying candy anymore. Streets have been deserted for the last 5 years at least. They used to have full size candy but no one comes by anymore....

When I was younger and still at home I would come back with 2 pillow cases full of candy.. Now they just turn off the lights and eat/watch tv. Even the white folk don't even have their lights on anymore.

I have to agree Halloween is dead in Vancouver. I remember back 15+ years Halloween was busy and booming with kids on the streets trick or treating. My grandparents had a place on Kerr and 54th and would keep tally of how many kids came every year. As each year passed the amount of kids that came door to door halved every year. Ive heard from friends they had about 3-6 kids come to their door (probably only from rain).

But lets face its its pretty dangerous these days to be trick or treating out on the streets with goons jumping kids for candy and fireworks. One year a bunch of brown punks tried jumping my group of friends. These guys didnt know what they had coming to them, one guy got knocked the fuck out from a baton from trying to take my friends backpack and a few wimpered and tried apologizing and ran off leaving their friend on the floor.

As for idiots with fireworks/firecrackers Ive had people drop stuff through my mail slot. I now tape it and keep my paintball gun ready to go at the door. Halloween just aint what it used to be.

i blame Clifford Olson.

fuck when i was a kid the streets were FLOODED with kids every year. now i see 2-3 with parents in tow.

depressing. 2-3 hours out of every year is a free for all of free candy. no one comes out because of crazies.

NOTE: 99% of any poisoned or needles/razors in candy were done by parents to their own kid. now thats fucking sick.

without the mask, Rorcshack looks like the Sherminator.
