| Indoor Skydiving coming to Vancouver Quote:
Key facts about iFLY VANOUVER INDOOR SKYDIVE facility:
System proven:
Joint venture with the world leader, over 26 Vertical Wind Tunnels (VWT) built and or under construction in the past 5 years operating in nine different countries to date.
Safe:
System design provides wall-to-wall airflow, simulating skydiving in the safest possible environment. The system and company has an unprecedented safety record, primarily due to a superior training system and patented wall to wall air system. Full insurance coverage is established and approved.
Efficient:
The advanced design and use of space-age materials which results in dramatic low power consumption. This system uses only a fraction of the power required by the next closest competitor.
It is powered by electric fans producing no emissions.
Reliable: Based on over 50,000 hours of operation in every possible environment, the new system operates with near zero maintenance requirements and 98.6% system readiness. These types of advanced models can operate hour after hour, day after day, seven days a week.
Facility:
We have negotiated and secured a high traffic, high visibility location with easy accessibility next to a major parking facility and steps away from Canada Line (Bridgeport Station) central to the metro Vancouver market.
Physical:
This is a sport, full use of all body muscles, incredible workout in a fully interactive, controlled and safe environment.
Truly unique:
This is not a "Ride", but rather a participation adventure for the entire family or corporate group. The customers body movements determine where and how they will fly, making the experience different every time and encouraging repeat visits. The entire experience is amazing to do and to watch, entertaining flight observers, as customers become part of the show. Most facilities receive incredible press coverage due to the unique nature.
Invaluable training system:
For Skydivers and military participants, tunnel time is incredible. Every 30 to 45 sec. In the tunnel equal one real skydive freefall.
Realistic: Proven to be the most efficient, consistent airflow in the industry and immerses customers in the high adrenalin world of Bodyflight. Patented wall-to-wall airflow system and multiple ducted electric fans located above the flight area, indoor flight is virtually indistinguishable from freefall.
Staff training and employment:
Full and part time staff would be needed for the year round operation. Flight instructors and operators will be full trained/certified at several current facilities and consistent support and ongoing training would be offered by the equipment supplier. All participants will be instructed and will receive DVD and debriefing after their experience.
No experience necessary - virtually anyone can take to the air, from the age of three and up.
Fun for the whole family, corporate group outing, stags and birthday parties or just for the thrill.

It's absolutely not an alternative to skydiving (unless you never will skydive and want to feel like you are), but it is super cool. I'd love to do that!
I went skydiving for the first time last month and I'm going again next weekend. First jump course to jump by myself was $199, my jump next weekend is only $75. Only from 3,000 feet though, no freefall. I have to work my way up if I want to jump from 10,000 and get the freefall experience.

Don't you need to jump tandem first prior to jumping alone?

the chute opens right away so you just have to take the toggles to guide your self down. You can go to places that your strapped to someones chest and free fall as well but I really liked having my own control.

It's in the instructors hand (he has blue gloves on). So you don't really freefall very far before the chute opens. The ripcord is pulled as soon as you go.
It's an all day course to prep for doing it, it helped a lot. By the end when we jumped, I felt confident in knowing what to do. Which is good because it's pretty damn hard to think about what you're doing once you let go of the plane and start plummeting to the earth.

The highest skydive area is actually just outside San Jose, CA. A friend of mine did it a couple weeks ago, tandem, and had a blast. I think it was ~150 USD for him.

60 minutes for $750 is more than most high end escorts cost. You tell me which way you'd rather de-stress =\

holy thats pricey, it would be cheaper to get a round trip flight to San Diego and sky dive there than to do a 1 hour session "fake" sky diving here.... what are they thinking.

I have no doubt that the tunnel will see business from Washington and Alberta as well as skydivers and other people from around BC. Quote:

I'd love to do that! | Yeah, definately not an alternative to skydiving but an awesome supplement. Time in the tunnel makes a huge difference practicing position and maneuvers for freefall if you do actually skydive. Also as another bonus, you can do this year-round and in any weather (I'm not sure whether the DZ's around the lower mainland run all year). Quote:

For the average person visiting a wind tunnel, 20 minutes (in at most 5 minute intervals) is already pushing the limits of their physical endurance.

i think people see the $750 and get scared, but if you can read the packages are $62.50 for 2 - 1 minute sessions or $99.00 for a 4 minute session.
both comes with about an hour of preperation, fitting and instructions etc.
think of how long a 3000 ft skydive? 1 min? and thats with a paracute open.
this is a free fall type experience. I dont think people would want to do this for more than 5-10mins.

This isn't for novices to try "simulated" skydiving. This is for serious skydivers who want to practice maneuvers. You know how many jumps you'd have to do to get in 15 minutes of pure free-fall?
