Any tool to evenly deflute headlights?
 

im ripping apart my headlights again and i want to deflute my lens again since my last attempt turned out shitty.Using a dremel leaves uneven pits and notches on my lens so it still appears hazy and has many random pits and imperfections on my lens. o and this is for a plastic lens not glass btw.

is there any polishers or rotary machines that i can use? i don't mind paying and taking this to a pro, who has all the tools. :D

and no, no one makes clear lens or aftermarket projectors for my car.

Buy these + take lens off + put lens on your OE headlights = cleared lenses, no need for deflute

aluminum polish on plastic lens??!

ive always used my buffer with light cut polish then finishing polish, im not sure how much more even than that you could get.

dont forget to tape black liner and around the headlights too

hm.... so can anyone do this? as i dont have the tools to do it

I only way I know of is wet sanding + hours upon hours of sanding

lol i tried sanding but im lazy + cant seem to get the pits that the dremel made out. so im looking for a machine that can do it more evenly + faster i dunno i guess if no one can do it i have to go back to sanding it

Its for his 1990–1997 Toyota Previa. His VIP-Mobile.

I had a similar problem with my Prelude. You have to wet sand it. When I did it for the first time I started with 800 grit and worked my way up to 2000. Keeping the headlight wet at all times and using soapy water. Lots of soap suds.
I then took my Mothers Power ball mini and attached it to a drill. Applied Mequiar's PlastX and went to town on it. Applied a little bit more PlastX and buffed it with a microfibre cloth by hand to finish.

You can also try Mequiar's Headlight Restoration Kit but wet sanding is your best bet.

I've wet sanded many headlights and it really helps. If you still can't get the results you're after you might want to crack open the headlight and clean it from the inside as well or just get new DEPO headlights with a retrofit if possible.

will that work for inside of headlight lens? im doing the inside of the lens not the outside. and anyone who knows how to do this properly willing to do this for me?

i just opened my headlights today, and as you can see the many white spots in the center of the inside of the lens are pits made from using a dremel. can anyone help? :confused:

that looks like you have a hell of a job ahead of you.

why not buy another pair from the wreckers and start again?

i have another set of headlights already, but since this is partially defluted i might as well continue, if it doesn't work out il just slap the oem fluted lens back on

LOl no thats polish all around the headlight. forgot to wipe it off before i took the pic

do not expect to have this done in a day, you probably can but if u are patient, you will have a better ending result.

what you need to do are done in steps.

first, u need to wet sand. 1500 grit automotive sand paper w/ water, and a little soap in the solution doesnt hurt. count your strokes so that u do no over polish a certain area. dont freak out if your lens goes completely cloudy. thats the point! you may even want to change from long strokes to circular ones. varying the pattern means u dont have set patterns pitted into the headlights. id honestly say if u want a good job, take about an hour per headlight.

then do the same with 2000 grit. it may even be purely whited out by this time. same as above.

now u need a liquid polish. i went with meguirs plastX. i nearly went thru a whole bottle just on the front 2 headlights on my car. use a rotary polisher. id totally invest in one just purely for future on polishing the car or anything. the difference from this and a rotary sander is the lower rpm's.

if the headlights are on the car, mask off around the headlight.
