I was in town for a couple of days, but only skied on the 12 and the 13.
It was really windy on the 12. I got blown UP the 5 mile trail by the wind.
But, it was ok. Still tons better than the locals.

The 13 was great though. Trails were groomed, but the sun came out enough to soften the snow.
The bowl had great snow. Gf and I had a blast.
The blue "round about" is pretty awesome. It is a really easy trial. Its only blue cause it narrow. I recommend it if you want to get away from the crowds and just soak in some wilderness; very serene and lots of fantastic views.

Shitty, my Flow bindings broke at the end of the day, the threaded end where the cable attaches to the binding broke. Dunno how long it'll take for warranty/repair, might be more worthwhile to just buy new bindings

if you got the skills you just charge it.

just call your drop and screw the nay sayers. the terrain park is a park, if no one is playing on a feature it's yours to use.

Just sayin.

I was also there on Thursday. conditions were so wicked! I started to explore those black diamond tree runs (always scared to try them), and had a lot of fun.

not sure if we can discuss equipment here, but here goes.
I've been shopping for some new bindings to replace my crappy bottom-of-the-barrel Burton Freestyle bindings. I want to buy the Burton Cartel as I hear so many good things about them. I saw at Pacific Boarder that they have two different models of the Cartels. I'm not talking about the EST and non-EST models. it looks like there is a Cartel model with extra padding on there. I forget the name of, but I couldn't find any info on this model anywhere on the internet. anyone know what I'm talking about here? I'd like to know the difference and feeling between the two.

you aren't commiting to to the spin.

remember this equation.....

your eyes, lead your head, leads your shoulders, leads your torso, leads your legs.

Look left, turn your head left, turn your shoulders left, then the rest of the body will follow. [or right, and the rest will follow]

your arms are a large part of your kinetic energy, allowing you to wind up to spin. However even if you spin without looking your body will not allow it to commit.

When you come around from a spin, the rest of the body will follow, PROVIDED your eyes have seen/spotted the landing.

Common problem for people going off of bigger jumps trying to spin is the fact that they tend to shift their eyes/head in a direction that leads them to fall on their back, or their stomach.

the backside 360 is the easier of the spins because you can turn your head and your body 180 allowing you to virtually spot the landing quicker.

The frontside 3 is harder because you can only turn your head in a 90degree position before the rest of the body follows suit.

You also must have the appropriate amount of speed for the jump. If you get the right amount of speed, the jump will flow a lot smoother. Going too slow it will only make it more difficult.

Burton offers 2 specific styles of bindings. Universal mount, and proprietary EST mount.

Universal is pretty self explanatory, where you can mount the binding to any board provided it has inserts.

*note burton uses 3D mounts,

where as other companies offer 4x4 mount.

3 screws holding the binding, or 4 screws*

Inserts are the things in the board that allow you to place binding screws into to mount the bindings to the board.

EST is completely different, It uses recessed channels that hold 2 anchors for the screws to mount the binding to the board, and thus require either proprietary EST bindings, or you can use universal bindings with special binding base plates [or you can rig your current plates] to mount the binding to the board.

There is no benefit to either system, but there is a difference.

See image below.

This is the view from a universal baseplate provided by burton, the binding is the burton custom. and as you can see there are holes on the baseplate that allow you use both 4x4 boards, or EST boards. [burton provides their own specific base plates for the 3D mounting system]

This is the view from a EST binding, not that the mounting is on the outside of the binding, allowing you to remove the screws from underneath the foot bed. bringing you closer to the board, resulting in better feel The result is a WIDE range of adjustment within the snowboard/binding interface.

Now there are benefits to having a universal binding mount system and there is also benefits behind burton EST.

Simple reason for EST lovers? Better board feel, and better board flex. It brings your feet closer to the board, and your board will provide you with better feedback when riding. So you know what the snow feels like. Now that might sound a little farfetched, but truth be told, it matters to some people.

With regular mounting, you are elevated above the mounting screws, and then with new bindings, you are also placed ontop of a absorption padding to help with shock from rough terrain, or heavy landings.

What do you think is best? your call, because 99% of snowboarding now is vanity, you get what you think looks good, but also what you can afford
