officers taking a "sample" of the tint is nothing new. not sure if it's really for evidence since it's not a criminal code violation to have tint but motor vehicle one... perhaps more so a way to make sure you actually follow through to get your tint removed (since who would drive around with partially scraped off tint?).

plus, the reason why bike cops seem to be the ones focusing their attention on you and your cars (a plural "you" here) is that they're ALL traffic cops and it's their job to help enforce the motor vehicle act (in addition to the CCC). general patrol members, i would assume, have less of an interest in lesser motor vehicle act offences as they're there to patrol the streets for crime.

speaking of the bc motor vehicle act:

7.05 (8) No person shall drive or operate on a highway a motor vehicle which has affixed to or placed on the windshield or a window any material that reduces the light transmitted through the windshield or window unless the material is affixed to or placed on

(a) the windshield but not more than 75 mm below the top of the windshield,

(b) a side window that is behind the driver, or

(c) the rear window if the motor vehicle is equipped with outside rear view mirrors on the left and right side of the motor vehicle.

(9) If a motor vehicle contains manufactured glass, tinting contained within the glass must meet the minimum light transmittancy requirements under the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

most provinces prohibit such tint so tough luck.

moral of the post:
1) if you violate the Act, you're just asking for unwanted attention. quick solution: don't violate the act.
2) bike cops are traffic cops. if you're violating the Act, expect the unwated attention from them.

regardless of the motor vehicle act, the point is he should not have touched your car without ur premission. id still lay it to him in court, thats just me tho.

My car comes with OEM tinted windows/windsheild etc....I'd be a little more than upset if some douche bag pig decides to scrape up my window in order to "try" and gather evidence; also how can they "must meet the minimum light transmittancy requirements"???

Since he issued him a ticket pretty sure his badge info is on there. Of course you could have been a smart ass and said ok u can take evidence as long as I take evidence of you $#@$ my car up with my video phone ;)

threezero 11-04-2010 09:36 AM

The bike cops are just traffic cops? I've seen them go into espot to check on ppl. In fact I've seen them slot of times doing totally non traffic related things

PJ 11-04-2010 11:37 AM

They're probably just mad at how ridiculous they look and want people to take them seriously.... and jealous of your car.

To quote a T shirt on sale in Police supply stores...."Motorcops even scare other Cops".

The_AK 11-04-2010 08:03 PM

I thought this was bicycle cops, I know a guy who got arrested for possession of weed by some bicycle cops while he was outside Rush smoking with another guy. Needless to say, many lols were had.

GabAlmighty 11-04-2010 08:27 PM

Cops on a bike? Haha, that's almost as embarassing as when I got pulled over by a Santa Fe

They FOCUS on traffic/motor violation.
However they are still POLICE. Thus, they still enforce the CCC.

mowontech 11-04-2010 11:01 PM

the cop probably thought he was Hells Angels with his Harleys with police stickers on

How is a bicycle cop effective at enforcing traffic laws... Any old beater can outran one. I have never seen the bike cops do anything beside busting drunk / high ppl on the street and in and around places like espot rush and the pool places

buddy 11-05-2010 05:12 PM

I'd be in a bad mood too riding a bike "focusing on traffic/motor violations" and stopping guys with tinted front windows are the most actions I can get all day; while others cruising the city in the comfort of climate controls fighting real crimes ...

Eff-1 11-05-2010 11:51 PM

bike = motorcycle

not bicycle.
