I know the ages on this board are typically on the younger side but that's the price of living in Vancouver. I'm making around $80,000 a year and it's enough for me to live a pretty basic lifestyle. If I had a girlfriend, and she wanted to have an average home and a yard for the kids to play in, guess what? My $80,000 a year isn't going to cut it unless I want to move to Abbotsford and spend 4 hours a day in a car that's going to be something crappy because again, that's what $80k gets you in this city. Keep in mind you should be saving for your retirement and stuff as well and tax here is a bitch so I can see what's up for a lot of women getting close to 30. Especially if they want to have kids. I've got a few friends on this board that make a lot more money than myself, one of them is banned, and even with their high income, life is not easy in this city. One is a dentist and couldn't even get a job unless they moved to Chilliwack because there are so many dentists in Vancouver. $100k in debt making $160k a year sounds great but the guy is like 29 and has a wife and kid. He had some dream of driving a Porsche once he became a dentist. Yeah good luck with that. I can't even afford a hot girlfriend in Vancouver and probably end up with some fatty that I'm unattracted to just because we live in a city that costs so much and pays us bullshit wages. |

Wow I didn't realize just how materialistic people in vancouver are.. Yes I would love to date/marry a guy that made over 100g a year but do you know what, your wage is not going to be a deciding factor with me. As long as you have a good stable career and a good head on your shoulders than I will be happy with that.. Maybe its because of how I grew up or where I live but I am not all about living right in van; if I lived out in say chilliwack I'd be alright with that.. I think you guys on here need to look harder for girls out there that aren't so shallow Posted via RS Mobile |
Like some of you probably mentioned, as long as someone has a good stable decent job and ambition to strive for higher, it's the best anyone can do. It's nice to be cracking 6 digits and what not, but it's easier said than done. What else more can someone do. |
having a personality and a well endowed member helps |
tell the bitch to move to hong kong for a year.. then she'll know she has it good even if you live in an apartment.. |
^^ that's true. And making 80k a year is really good in this city giving the fact you spend wisely. I also think girls should also put into the effort in the relations as well. Not just OMG he can afford a house! OMG he can afford to have a baby with me when we are marry! What about You girls? What will you do to help your bf start a family. Please don't do the His Money is the spending money for us, housing, food, bills and OUR SAVINGS and my money is all my for my own spendings and my savings. Don't expect the guys to pay and do everything for you. Of coz that's what 98% of girls in Vancouver think lol. |
There are A LOT of shallow girls who are gold diggers, then there are also a lot of shallow guys who thinks they won't ever need to work after university and drives a GTR, M3 and then realize when they finish school, they are alone because he has no friends and he hits reality of actually have to find a job. Again, I can't emphasize this enough, I have seen so so many 28-35 married and divorced and single girls who thought getting married was the happiest fairytale ever. Now, they are single, siting at home with their family with her kids and stalking guys on Lavalife, POF and Eharmony trying to find the next best guy. All because of some stupid mistake of society telling them diamonds last forever and love is all you need at 23. Growing weed is a great business, but to be really honest, when was the last time you saw someone in their 50s being really proud of his business growing weed? i know a dude that rain a brothel and it got shut down, they took his house and last we saw him he was working at a Mcdonalds at age 43. |

Which is good given apparently the ratio of women to men in industrialized countries is growing according to this mornings research releases. |
^which research paper? I don't blame some women especially if it's given that the male isn't trying to get somewhere I life or be somebody. Theres a difference between marrying into someone rich and marrying into a provider. Who wants to be with someone who cant suport them, better yet, support their family? I think some men are the same too, how many guys her are down for a wife who would sit at home all day and Not get anything done? In short, how many guys would like a wife who they paid I'n food, clothes, and money for good looks and sex? Lol if that's the case then just get yourself an escort. My mom just returned from her business trip and my dad and I are definitely seeing how it's nice to have someone who can actually cook a great meal for you. Im not trying to sound shallow but it beats having a mom who can't do anything or doesn't try to improve herself. In the end, everyone wants someone that can get something out of each other, whether it be money, love, food, shelter, or whatever. Lol, just some people are more greedy than others and that's where we run into the concept of "gold diggers". I don't know about you guys but I cant settle for mediocrity or someone who plans to work at some dead end job for the rest of her life. It's a two way street, if im going to be spending the rest of my life with someone I want to be sure that I can rely on them just as much as they can rely on me. Posted via RS Mobile |
There was a report I saw this morning that in areas with industrial pollution (which is pretty much any major city) they're an increasing disparity between male and female birth rates. I think the research team investigating it was trying to find out if it had to do with BPA and other synthetic estrogen that is in our water system? I remember some mention of it too in: Origins: How The Nine Months Before Birth Shape the Rest of Our Lives by Anne Murphy Paul too - though she talks about a whole host of factors that mess us up in different ways in utero. |

there's a cbc or ctv documentary called "the disappearing male" that could help explain the numbers too. |
Oh! Found it. http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/docz...appearingmale/ If anyone's interested. Well the good news is for you guys, you're facing less and less competition by the day? |

The reality is people like to compare. If ur frd's bf has a 700k house & drives a P-car with their parents' money, chances are ur girl will start comparing u with that guy. If u'r a poor student who is trying to struggle ur way up while paying for ur student loan, u'll still lose major points even if u have all the right elements for success in the future. The sad thing is that there r quite a number of these rich immigrants that girls begin to feel entitled to these luxuries that people spend their lives accumulating. Yea, I really would like know how they come to those national average figures. It doesnt take into account how long the "family" has been in the work force. A young couple under 30 is unlikely to make even close to 85k/year. I'd venture a guess that unless both are professionals, it's unlikely to be above that average until late 30s. Of coz, everyone will know someone who knows someone that makes 200k/yr at 25yrs old working at some special once-in-a-lifetime jobs. But saying that you can't live with a 70k combined income is pretty much bs. |

not sure about you guys...if I make 100K a year, for sure I will find someone who makes about the same in a year, definitely not someone who makes 30-40K and she has already hit a dead end in her career. At this moment, me and my gf makes about the same and that's a good motivation to compete with each other. Just like I got a decent salary raise this year, so she's now looking for a better job. and yeah, we have been doing this for 4 years, we are enjoying it. it sucks if your SO needs to be financially sponsored all the time. |

FYI, making 80K a year in Vancouver is about the same making 50K in HK. - people there generally don't own a car and pay for gas - income tax is way LOWER, no sales tax, no HST BS, no carbon tax - expenses are less - food is cheaper but usually taste worse. Quote:
and I find guys are better financial planner than girls at any age. Guys are all about save save save, girls are like spend spend spend. Ever heard a girl saying she wants to save 100K in her 20s to start a new life with her bf or something? usually it's the other way around. |
My girl and I split everything roughly 50/50, from mortgage to everyday expense. I think this is the way to go. I agree with AsianXL that it's nice to compete with each other to make more money. Good motivation for a better life. |

That is why I never get women and I will stay single for a very very very long time. |
Are you kidding me? 80k is more than the Canadian average income which is around 45 to 50k? (If I remember correctly.) Either way, making 80k a year is more than enough to have a decent life WITH or without a girlfriend in Vancouver. I think that you are looking at the wrong places to find a girlfriend. |
^ I believe we are talking about the standard living quality here. Like a decent place to live, an affordable car to drive, a salary that can feed your lazy ass wife + your kid(s), little debt to repay, plus some saving every month. Assume 1/3 of your salary to pay off your mortgage ($2000-2500 a month), for sure 80K before tax is what you need. Keep in mind making an average income does not mean you are a middle class. Having a gf could be helpful to pay off your debt, but like some say she could be your financial burden. So pick your gf wisely, a bank will not take your wife as a remortgage. |

I do think that getting to the 80-90K barrier is pretty significant and to be making this type of income under 30 is very good. |
