So my postman, whenever there's a customs fee delivery, will always take the slip needed if I want to make a customs fee refund request (Canada post btw) I tell him that slip is for the customer and i tell him why (he wont let me show him why) and he just says "No both slips are for me to return you just get the one glued to the box"
but this isn't the case as with other mailmen they'll give me that slip and when i pick my packages up at the post office they give me that slip as well
i made a complaint to canada post about him but it hasn't worked
so lately when i get a package and he comes to the door i ask him to just drop it off at the post office
and today it happened again but this time he gets pissed off and he's like "Then why do you get packages delivered?!"
i'm like wtf? -_- i gave him a curt response but i didn't want to go crazy since i'm concerned he might just throw my mail away or something (I hope i don't have a Newman on my hands now)

You can call it in to the customer service line and it will get forwarded to the station that your mail is delivered through.

The issue with customs is an annoying one and imo any item that needs funds collected should be held at the retail postal outlets and let the customer pick them up and allow the clerks to handle the money and paperwork end.
Customs deliveries are a pain as our bosses and the registration units (the ones that release the customs items to the carriers) want all the paper work back so the item can be verified as delivered and the funds collected are allocated for your particular parcel. Does that make any sense? Not really, especially when you consider that everything is tracked via tracking numbers and scans and what not. Technically all you need is the yellow slip that comes on the box with the total showing of the amount you paid in customs fees. Your carrier should not be taking those if he is. If he is, id report that asap, as something isnt right there.

tripman- i dont know where you get the idea that we work for 2-3 hrs and get paid for 8? If that was the case, everyone would be jumping on the postie band wagon. mail prep time is roughly 2.5hrs, plus a 4hr delivery allocation, plus 30min lunch and 2 15 min breaks, that adds up to a 7.5hr day. If you are able to get done early, thats a bonus, but ppl that hammer out their delivery are also the ones that usually have bad backs, knees, shoulders, wrists and are generally just plain broken. Is it worth it? Not to me, but maybe it is to the ppl you know. The flip side to that coin is if you are slow in your prep or slow in your delivery, your mail still needs to get delivered, regardless of how long it takes you. So it doent matter if you are out there for 4-6-8 hrs walking around, it has to get done. |
When I lived in Coquitlam (all separate houses) my postie used to have my mail delivered before 9am and finish his route by 11am and go fishing. (I used to talk to him and he would park beside my house). I really don't care if he was done early cause he did his job well. I'm a contract worker so as long as you do a good job, I don't care how long (or short) it takes.
On the flipside, my buddy is a carrier downtown and I think he works a solid 8 hours without slacking. I'm sure he spends way more time sorting since the population there is so dense.
You have to admit though, some routes are a lot easier than others.

You have to admit though, some routes are a lot easier than others. | those days are long gone. Now, especially in the station i work out of, getting finished btwn 2-3pm is a good day. The routes have gotten longer, the time for prep has dropped, the number of routes has been decreased, the amount of letter carriers has been reduced, which has all increased the work load for the current carriers.

Well that sucks. I guess the only real advantages are the occasional early day and the benefits.
I actually talked to my buddy today and he works 6am - 4pm, regularly. I found that quite surprising.

there's like 3 or 4 slips one that is glued to the box
one that says "customer copy" (i think that's the yellow one?)
and whatever other copies that the postal office takes
he takes all but the one that's glued to the box and when i try to show him that one of them is the customers copy (with a form to fill out on the back asking for a Customs Fee Adjustment) he wont let me (like he wont even let me touch em) and just says he has to take them all, when i pushed the point he's just like "nope, no" and im like "well how do i request a customs adjustment?" he's like "i dont know, no clue sorry" so im like "with the customers copy ur taking!" and he's like "nope" -_-
that's why whenever there's a customs fee package i get i have it dropped off at the postal outlet
