yeah...there's just no efficient way to really crack down on a mandatory winter tire rule in the LM
Void coverage should be relatively easy. If a report filed for the accident indicated the driver(s) involved did not have adequate tires for the pre-defined condition(s). (ie. shit tires or summers when it was a slush mode out there, then they're on their own.
Similar to the 10 year driving restrictions that some people put on their insurance. If a person driving it doesn't have the 10 years and gets into an accident, they're fucked. If you don't have proper tires for the conditions and you factor into a collision, you should be fucked.
To implement it, they really just have to lay out what the predefined conditions are and what constitutes inadequate tires. (ie. X amount of snow in X hours, X temperature, X kind of tires, X % left in tires and so on.

The MVA technically calls for minimum tread depth of 3.5mm on winter tires, and that is just a touch less than 5/32".

First, no snow tires, then tread depth........ when will this all end? It's a slippery slope, I say.
All kidding aside, I'm all for it. Nevermind the inconvenience caused by these drivers, they could end up causing major accidents and injuries. If the COV do go ahead with this, I hope the other municipalities follow suit.
One thing is for sure, the tire shops would be very happy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, 35-40% of vehicles that come in for new tires are worn well past the wear bar. A lot of alignment issues that burn through the inner or outer tread to the point of showing chords and wires. I'm 1000000% for road side safety checks

When I talked to my friend who lives out there earlier, he said the roads were fine. I'd still be cautious of black ice, especially if you're going out there during the evening/early morning.
