I was driving in the right lane from a red light, then I got tailgated, almost got rear ended, and got high-beamed all by the same car. Pissed me off.

to be honest, have anyone one of you ever tailgated a car because he/she cut you off? i'm pretty sure some of you have

tailgating people in the left lane is always allowed, if you are blocking someone in the left, move the fuck over bitch.

Used to... but not anymore.
Cause I know they don't give a crap. I know I'm not actually going to hit them. It's dangerous, and my fault if there's an accident.
And many drivers are oblivious anyway to be aware that I'm tailgating them. Of all the times I've tailgated in the past...
I don't recall ever making the person move over or speed up due to tailgating.

and if I was tailgated, I used to downshift and speed up or do brake checks or whatever.
Now, I could care less, because I don't give a crap, I'm pretty sure they're not actually gonna hit me (I don't have a nice car anyway),
I don't get intimidated/excited he wants to challenge me, have more control of my ego, I grew up, etc.
I move over if I can, if not, I continue on with the speed I feel like (which is at or above speed limit)
I'm probably saving his life anyway from him losing control and hitting a tree. He can thank me later.

^If every driver was as mature as you, this would be a far nicer place to live.

dn53 11-24-2010 01:47 PM

What if you brake suddenly but have no real reason to brake and a tailgater hits you? is it still their fault?

Just say a dog/cat/animal/anything ran out infront of u and u will win they should be far enough behind you to avoid hitting you in such a case.

Sry for double rs mobile is fucked

AzNightmare 11-24-2010 06:22 PM

Yeah I believe the rear ender is always going to be at fault, beacuse you weren't
3 car spaces behind, or whatever it's supposed to be. It's not the tailgater's call
to decided whether the guy in front braked for a legitimate reason or not.
All that matters is the tailgater was too close to give himself enough time to react.

Even in multi vehicle accident, if someone rear ends you, launching your car forward
to rear end the vehicle in front of you, you're responsible for the vehicle in front of you.

Correct me if I'm wrong on that one...

MindBomber 11-24-2010 06:36 PM

I would always just say I was a little above the speed limit and I tapped my brakes to slow down, I didn't realize there was someone tailgating that close behind me. Dog, cat, kid on the road is a bit harder to prove, because in that case you would likely be slamming on your brakes. Lots of drivers adjust speed by touching their brakes slightly, totally believable.

The multi-vehicle scenario was discussed a few days ago, but no one really knew the exact answer. In my opinion it would be the first person to do the rear end someone would be 100% at fault for all vehicles involved, if your car is being pushed forward how could you be liable. Theres the argument that you stopped to close to the car ahead of you, but a car could be pushed forward a long way depending on how hard your vehicle is hit.

I have found that if you do that and turn on your hazards, they go around you right away.

MindBomber 11-24-2010 07:22 PM

Interesting, good trick.

!LittleDragon 11-24-2010 07:23 PM

I get tailgated so much I don't even care anymore. I let them do what they do... no brake checking for me. However in cases where I have to brake, I brake late and I brake hard. If they're too busy tailgating to notice there's a red light ahead and start slowing down... too bad... cuz I have about 10 feet to go from 40 to 0

Nightwalker 11-24-2010 07:29 PM

Brake checking is the stupidest shit in the world. I don't know about you guys, but I go out of my way to AVOID accidents. I don't give a crap about who is at fault.

I believe its stupid because if people are tailgating you, chances are they're not going to be in their best mood, so causing an accident is just going to send them over the edge.

AzNightmare 11-25-2010 01:51 AM

Well, brake checking is like a form of a "taunt"
It's not like the person braking expects to really get rear ended.

It's still stupid though, only because it doesn't accomplish anything.

Mancini 11-25-2010 04:26 PM

Legally, the left lane is a passing-only lane. In reality there is no "passing" lane. It's a free for all.

jpark 11-25-2010 05:02 PM

i had some asshole in a ram truck tailgate me today in maple ridge.. in the heavy snow too, cant stand some douchebags these days

MindBomber 11-25-2010 05:15 PM

The only thing more annoying than being tailgated by a truck, is when the truck has HIDs so they blind you in the process.

gars 11-25-2010 05:35 PM

ya, Snow brings out a lot of stupid drivers. I leave plenty of room in front of me, because some of the streets still have snow and my stopping distance is quite a bit longer. But if you tailgate me, I'm not going to brake check, but I will definitely slow down. Sometimes, I'm not in the left lane because I don't want you to pass me, I'm in the left lane because there is still snow on the right lane...

People are idiots; half of them are driving around on all-seasons and don't realize their AWD doesn't help them turn or stop, the other half might have winter tires but still drive around assuming everybody else has winter tires as well.

PJ 11-25-2010 08:37 PM

Got tailed by a white Yaris in the snow this morning.

1. Tailgating in the snow? Really?
2. Yaris, lol

If you are on this forum, white Yaris. You sir, are a class A douchebag.

noTirl 11-25-2010 08:46 PM

Was driving around downtown today and was tail gated by a hugeass truck for the longest time >.>

Nightwalker 11-25-2010 10:50 PM

I love how it seems impossible to leave a proper distance between you and the car ahead of you without someone trying to cut in that space.

It may be what helped create a bunch of these tailgaters.

iamon 11-26-2010 05:49 PM

This fucker in a white van with ontario plates almost rear ended me I had just turned right into the right lane on 2 lane street when this mofo decides to change lanes when he enters the intersection it is pissing rain right now nd I'm already at 50kmh nd he honks high beams nd then pulls beside me to glare at me nd then I'm going to turn left at the next intersection nd this fucker backs up nd wants to fight me

Amuse 11-26-2010 06:10 PM

Another thing that pisses me off is when you're lowered and driving slow with a manual in a single lane road with multiple speedbumps and a car is tailgating you while driving an automatic with no concern for the speedbumps.

MindBomber 11-26-2010 10:47 PM

Idiots who don't know how to drive, like to get upset and try to fight people. Its just stupidity compounding stupidity.
