Tailgating.

Why the fuck do people tailgate?
Its dangerous, stupid, achieves nothing, upsets other drivers and if you cause an accident your at fault.

If I'm going the speed limit in the right lane, I don't understand what the fuck your trying to achieve. I'm not going to speed up, I'm going the speed limit, if you want to pass me the left lane is there, why not use it. If I brake check, don't flip me off, if you weren't tailgating you wouldn't have had to hit your brakes. What if there's an emergency and I need to hit my brakes hard to avoid an accident, you'll hit rear end me and be 100% liable. Drivers in British Columbia need to go back to school, can anyone tell me what the proper following distance when going 100km per hour is?

This is especially meant for semi-truck drivers, seeing as one almost killed me on highway 1 today.

I hate those people that tailgate on a one lane street and then pass u when the one lane gets wider on the right.

RevRav 11-22-2010 12:32 PM

Brake hard, and enjoy your new OEM, freshly painted bumper :)

jpark 11-22-2010 12:36 PM

dont worry dude.. happens to me so much now i just dont even care anymore

MindBomber 11-22-2010 12:37 PM

Unless, like in my case today, your rear ended by a semi going 100k. In that case I'd be enjoying the inside of a wooden box.

I really don't care most of the time, except when its a commercial truck.

F30 11-22-2010 12:38 PM

In those situations I usually just ease up on the gas and let my car slow down naturally. Sooner or later, the douche behind me will switch lanes and pass. I'd hate to have an accident, so doing it gradually works better than breaking.

gars 11-22-2010 12:39 PM

2 second rule going 100 km/h is 55m. The book actually recommends 3 seconds if you're on the highway, or in a vehicle that stops slower (such as a semi).

I hate tailgaters as well.

TheNewGirl 11-22-2010 12:44 PM

I think we all agree that tailgaters should all go to the special hell.

1exotic 11-22-2010 12:46 PM

yeah tailgating in the right lane is bs, pointless and does nothing.

on the other hand, there's a point to tailgate in the left lane. I'm not talking about in traffic, but when the road is rather clear. I'll usually drive up to the car, to let them know get the fuck out of my way your blocking me. It usually doesn't work because the majority of the drivers here are retarded.

Driving in the US is even better, because most people know how the road system works, unlike here.

MindBomber 11-22-2010 12:50 PM

I used to do the left lane tailgate just for a second to let someone know your there, but now I prefer a quick high beam flash. Communicates your message just as well, with less risk.

I wish I had gotten the trucks plate, I could have called Trans-Freight and reported the driver, who happened to follow me all the way to school to tell me I was the one who needs driving lessons.

F30 11-22-2010 12:58 PM

Any lane, tailgaters make me very uncomfortable. If I am in the left lane passing people in the right lane, I shouldn't have to drive like it is F1 race, so I generally don't get tailgaters or their motives.

A flash of high beams is definitely better, I know he is behind me and in a hurry, I'll change lanes to let him/her pass.

Dragon-88 11-22-2010 01:03 PM

I think we need to upgrade our speed limits.

We need to have somethign like this for hwy.
Minimum speed 100km/h on hwy.(drive slower than this and get ticket)
Max speed allowed 100-130km/h.
Anything over 40Km/h of speed limit = Impound/ticket
& most important Keep right unless passing.

But most likely that will never work.. Because vancouver just has horrible drivers... Some people just cant keep pace....

ajax 11-22-2010 01:05 PM

I thought it was going to be about football tailgating. The lions should have more of a tailgating scene! The empty pne lot should be good for it.

^then start a thread about football tailgating, don't jack mine.

gearshifter 11-22-2010 01:19 PM

wouldn't you still need to pay deductible even if it is 100% other guys fault + vehicle accident history?

not sure if thats worth it!

-EuroRSN- 11-22-2010 01:21 PM

Ill tailgate if ur going slower then the LIMIT otherwise if i wanna pass ill pass on the other lane lol

gonna play devil's advocate here!

u know that the speed of traffic on major roads & highway is over the posted limit by 10kph. now if you are going 80KMh on hwy 1 and rest of traffic is going 90+ and u are on the left lane, y wont you move over to right lane? if i am doing posted limit. i would just stay in right lane anyways. slower traffic keep left, unless to pass.

guess everybody has had thr share of Tailgators, i just move over,, not worth the headache

Qmx323 11-22-2010 01:28 PM

lol... i saw a road rage incident on my way to work on Saturday

I was going north up st. albans between Blundell and Francis, there was a blue Cadillac SRX in front of me and a gray Mk6 Golf in front of the SRX. The SRX passes the golf on the left (driving on the wrong side of the road) then cuts off the golf.

Then the SRX proceeds to STOP on the fucking curb and cuts off the golf when the golf tries to pass, this happened at least 4 times. At this point there were 5+ cars behind me and this ass hat in the SRX won't fuck off from the golf.

The golf turns right onto Blundell while the SRX is on the left lane, who does a fucking right turn from the middle of the intersection onto Blundell to follow the golf.

Some fucking people need to take things the fuck easier. Although I didn't witness WHAT exactly happened between those two, I'm sure delaying everyone else 5+ minutes and breaking 2-3 laws was worth it.

im not saying Tailgating is alright, in fact i usually take the left lane to pass. but i do see people riding on some1's ass all the time just because they are going over posted sign and dont wanna change lane.

Why would I change lanes? Left is passing and right is "slower" lane, correct?

lol my bad,, thats that i mean,

hirevtuner 11-22-2010 02:24 PM

just drive normal, if the guy behind you wants to pass, they will
but would reccomend you to be on the right lane (if possible) or else you will be slowing down the fast lane

you pay nothing if the other guy is deemed at 100% fault. but yes, you will have a vehicle accident history and thats not worth it if you are going trying to resell your car.

back on topic! hate tailgaters too especially on one lane traffic. whats worst is when it widens up, they cut to your right and try to zoom by you and cut you right off because of parked car or just because they can. what i do is if they are behind me i gradually lift off the gas peddle and if they are back enough i brake it. if i ever hit an area that widens up, i take up the middle and they can suck my exhaust.

I wouldn't care either if I drove a Korean car.

I never really care anymore, unless its something extreme. A semi three meters behind me car was extreme, so I brake checked hard and I'm sure he'll be more conscious of following distance in the future.

Driving a commercial truck is not the same as a car, the likelihood of killing someone in an accident is increase exponentially and thus the responsibility required of the driver does as well. In my opinion, licenses above class 5 should require yearly road tests.

GabAlmighty 11-22-2010 04:41 PM

My tailgate as a dent in it... More reason to brake check..
