Not doing anything for me. Feels like they're trying too hard to re-create UK exactly. I felt like I was watching TG UK but with bad American voice overs.

deep87 12-06-2010 05:45 PM

^I think the producers figure that most of the audience hasnt seen the UK version? Why else would you make a show about stuff thats already been done....and everything is so rehearsed, they need presenters who can banter back and forth

hk20000 12-06-2010 07:51 PM

hahahaha ironic that Tanner says if you wanted to run booze you'd have run a 300ZX, and Nascar will be full of Nissans going round and round.

......and now we have Toyotas running round and round....

ae101 12-08-2010 03:11 AM

i duno about u guy but the red neck ep was pretty especial when the caddy was running the off road course

ilvtofu 12-08-2010 08:07 AM

Damn that Z31 brings back memories
Except for being so weak and the 2+2 is bleh

Anyone think tanner and rutledge's matching shirts looked silly?

Yes, the chemistry isn't there yet but give it some time. TG UK's chemistry wasn't exactly that good during the first season either. As well, the energy during the "live" section wasn't great, but again you need to give it some time for the guys to become familiar with hosting and poking jibes and one another. As for the music... well, if you're going to complain about something like that, you clearly have no idea how much it costs in royalty fees to play even a ten second clip of a known song. The History channel can't compete with the BBC in terms of how much money they have to throw around.

That said, apart from the jittery in-car feed, the camera work was on-par with TG UK, and there were definitely hints in this episode about what it's potential can definitely be.

Like all pilot episodes, it's going to be among the worst. I can foresee it getting much better.

i agree and disagree. no top gear uk hosts did not have chemistry on their pilot, but the content and entertainment factor was through the roof with the first episode. and thats without another shows template to copy like top gear usa has. (dont count the original top gear because its completely different)

top gear uk had a friggin zonda and murc on their first ep. and they already knew 'a star in a reasonably priced car' was going to be a hit... and it still is 15 seasons later.

if top gear usa was the original top gear, the show would be decent. but since theres top gear uk to watch instead, why bother watching top gear usa? IMO

Whoops had an ESL moment there:

What I meant that they both had a redneck theme in mind so they wore plaid shirts. Strange it was a similar colour and pattern tho :s

Did you even watch the video? Top gear UK doesn't rip past a tour bus in a parking lot with people walking around. That was hugely irresponsible, If you think that's appropriate then you should probably go get your brain checked. I don't think I've ever seen top gear UK put the public's lives at risk like that, you must've been watching a different program.

Do you watch top gear uk? I can recall a Drag race on the vegas strip with people everywhere.

I don't remember that but even if that was the case. I've been to the strip a few times and no one jaywalks. It's a road for CARS, however a parking lot will have people crossing all over the place ALL THE TIME

I just love the episode for that jump with the cadillac... Sheer awesome. The production values seem to be climbing a little more each time so that's good, but still too much dead air in between what each host says. And the transitions could use some work.

The 2nd episode was pretty good, onto the 3rd one.

However, I really wish Adam Carolla was part of this and not this Adam Ferrara guy, it would've made things infinitely more interesting having more than one actual car guy (I know Wood is a host on speed, but it's for NASCAR. C'mon...)

roastpuff 12-09-2010 09:46 PM

You know what? I'm just waiting for the episode where Ferrara dies... that guy has more balls than is safe.

See the Lamborghini episode... see Cadillac jump...

Becouse he hosts NASCAR, hes not a car guy?

He hosts NASCAR and among his many car projects has an 83 CVCC hes rebuilding with a B18 swap.

I actually Met him at this last SEMA through a mutal friend, and he can shoot the shit about cars (import or domestic), trucks, whatever. Hes a car guy.

Wood seems way more entertaining on this show than Both the Adam guy or Tanner to me.

LOL

Totally missed that.

If they were going to get rid of anyone, i would actually get rid of tanner. I hate to say it becouse hes a great driver, but he boring as hell to listen to.

Keep him to drive the cars, but get someone with a personality to host.

Ronin 12-21-2010 06:02 PM

Fuck Top Gear US...the BBC one is back for a bit.

"Ah, Rich...would you like some PUSSY?"

!Aznboi128 12-21-2010 06:55 PM

I must say they're getting better. Have you guys watched the 1st season of top gear. They barly talked to each other and the fat guy kept talking about deals.... Sure it didn't work out but look at it now 15 seasons and we love it.

The challenge was great jumping caddy was awesome. Tanner just needs to loosen up a little, woods is hilarious tho some things he says is kinda off "brits are liars cause they put a 200mph speedo on a car that only goes 180~". The other guy, adam. Must say pretty week but I'm sure they'll get better. Once they work with each other for a bit I'm sure they'll be just as good as uk.

hahah yeah i just watched that episode. couldn't believe he said WOULD YOU LIKE SOME PUSSY? on the air. lol

but i think top gear USA is getting better. they need to do something about their transition and their jokes and their crowd. it's just... lame.

and big star in small car... lame questions to the guests, awkward transition from the interview to the videos...

i hope it gets better.

You do realize how popular Nascar is in the States, right? Pick any mainstream autoracing sport and it will still stand at the top. They're simply picking a market that they know they can cater to. Remember, they're trying to get new viewers, not convert all of the existing TG:UK ones.

Yes, they are the fastest growing sport in the US, I know.

As I said earlier, I was being facetious and only poking fun of Nascar.

As for TG US, the GM Car challenge in ep 5 was pretty funny.
