hmmm but this thread has a link to the full episode and it's more for the response from car guys....

wearing a fail rain coat for now.

terrible, people are still not getting that the hosts make the show. I would still watch the UK version if they were testing lawn mowers instead of cars.
The fat guy is ok, tanner has no personality and the other guy is just a douche, cant stand his face.
Also the cinematography and the music sucks ass, and the interview felt so rushed. Lastly, History channel? REALLY?
Keep tanner because he can drive, replace the other two with someone older.

EmOne 11-22-2010 06:01 PM

Sad thing is most Americans and nascar fans will circle jerk it because they've never seen the UK version and think its the best car show on TV.

ilvtofu 11-22-2010 06:11 PM

Where is Adam Carolla I love that man, such a gearhead and so much character

Halfway through the video not that great so far

The first quick lap was pretty poorly filmed

I think I'm in the minority here, but I actually didn't mind it.

Yes, the chemistry isn't there yet but give it some time. TG UK's chemistry wasn't exactly that good during the first season either. As well, the energy during the "live" section wasn't great, but again you need to give it some time for the guys to become familiar with hosting and poking jibes and one another. As for the music... well, if you're going to complain about something like that, you clearly have no idea how much it costs in royalty fees to play even a ten second clip of a known song. The History channel can't compete with the BBC in terms of how much money they have to throw around.

That said, apart from the jittery in-car feed, the camera work was on-par with TG UK, and there were definitely hints in this episode about what it's potential can definitely be.

Like all pilot episodes, it's going to be among the worst. I can foresee it getting much better.

hk20000 11-22-2010 06:15 PM

lol half way through it I turned on the TV and watch Canada's Worst Driver instead LOL.

didn't mind it, but i won't get high def for it.

hk20000 11-22-2010 07:11 PM

wow but I don't know how they managed to make a show that leaves me drier than a bowl of pepper.

It's like Fifth Gear with 50pts of IQ taken away.

Like.... Top Gear UK > Top Gear Aussie > Fifth Gear > Motorweek (lol) > Top Gear USA

at least motor week is informative.

I admit that its good for what it is but UK TG has set the bar so high that any attempt to imitate it results in dog shit.
I hope it gets better, because this being America it will get canned if the ratings suck.

somehow, I also forsee this happening. this version is almost identically to the UK version. as soon as I saw the show opening with the hosts in the air-hangar/warehouse type place, I knew it was gonna be less than great. I thought they would spice things up and make the show into their own American flavored TG, but it just ends up being a rip-off of the original.

the USA TG track appears to be high speed oriented. the corners aren't tight enough, so this will favor high-hp cars. I suspect all the "big stars" in their "small car" will be lapping very similar times which won't make the segment very fun or varied.

I was also upset when I heard Adam Carolla was off the show.

I have some constructive criticism,

Not bad. I wont even bother comparing it with the original, but comparing it to Australia and even Russia, its not too bad.
You can tell that there is still a lot of bonding to be done between the presenters. The lambo part started out awesome, half way though, I started falling asleep, due to dreary voices and obvious statements.

The music, and the voices during road tests still need a lot of work. And the cameras shaking at higher speeds is not good either.

Lots of room for improvement, and i hope they work on jokes and antics much more.

needs more political incorrectness
needs better chemistry between the hosts
need to look less staged for the stunts
needs more wit
stig needs to learn how to drive better

Wit ~= the chemistry, that's the premise/setup.

The stunts... although staged or whatever, you could tell enough in the UK one, but it was funny anyways

needs to be less BORING... i mean, do you know why top gear UK doesn't tell us what we can read on the internet about those cars? reminds me of that line from tokyo drift "wow, you can read the brochure"

Stig did seem a bit off... not nearly as pro as Ben Collins used to be. Then again, Black stig in UK one was noob too, even up to the point they killed him off.

bloodmack 11-23-2010 11:25 PM

i am a hugeee TG fan and I didnt mind it but it definitely needs some work..

ae101 11-23-2010 11:44 PM

the show kind put me off with 90% of the jokes being bad & how its not as daring as the uk version (seriously i was disappointed when there was no missiles)

but seriously i still duno why history channel picked up the damn show anyways (looks a little out of place in a way)

satek 11-24-2010 03:14 AM

Give it some time, it's only the first episode.

If it's about cars I'll watch it, hell I even watch the aussie version.

hk20000 11-24-2010 05:41 AM

Aussie versions are good laughs at least and they don't have a super douche host like the US version does...
