Because a Chinese sub surfaced in the middle of a US carrier battle group and the Americans shit themselves.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...red-faced.html

If North Korea ever went nuclear on the South or any of it's allies it would be wiped off the face of the Earth within hours. It would be suicidal for NK to go nuclear, the only reason they're trying to get them is as a deterrent for an invasion.

South Korea doesn't exactly have a 2nd strike option, which makes it necessary and fortunate enough for the United States that they can bypass the notion of non-interference.

If shit hits the fan, Japanese and American forces alone will be enough to stomp North Korea flat, and China will (hopefully and more likely to) look the other way.
The North Koreans aren't that dumb. Their nuclear capabilities are for passive aggressive deterrence purposes only.

China isnt stupid they just want a buffer zone between them and SK, the status quo is working pretty well for china and i dont think they would want to do anything to change it.

As far as NK theyre just gonna keep acting unpredictable without doing anything to start an actual war so they have some bargaining chips whenever they go to six party talks. Their economy is fucked and they have no food or fuel so they have a lot to gain, and this is the only way they have any leverage.

I think that SK would be overjoyed to see NK be wiped off the map, as long as the nuclear fall out didn't spill over into their borders, which the US wouldn't allow to happen.
China has many reasons to preserve North Korea, so many its almost unpredictable what they would in the event of war. My knowledge of Asian politics is limited, but to my knowledge China doesn't have any other allies in the area if something happens. Let alone a fascist, communist country, so completely reliant on China's aid that they would do anything to protect it. Plus, the human rights violations committed in NK distract the world from anything China could possibly do wrong.

There are a lot less so called "reasons" to preserve North Korea than most people have been led to think.
Sure, it is the only noteworthy regime in Eastern/South Eastern Asia that has any significant military alliances with China, but let's not forget this treaty was signed over half a century ago. Since then, a lot of progression has been made on China's part. North Korea? Not so much.

North Korea's reliance on China's economy does not directly translate to them willing to be on that end of the leash. Conversely, China while having assets and prospects in North Korea, sees the crumbling of the regime, and statistics will show you that foreign aid (excluding those passed under the table) from China to North Korea have showed a steady decline over the past two decades despite China's growing economy.

As I alluded to in another post, the presence of North Korea's militaristic nature, to China, really is a matter of strategic (mostly military) importance. China has already been (albeit reluctantly) sucked into American dominance through economic and cultural imperialism; and a lot of scholars have observed that this unwillingness to succumb to Western politics and military might has resulted in the continuance of the China-North Korea relation.

So it's not China as a whole that needs to preserve North Korea. In fact, common sense dictates that it's the exact opposite, regardless what North Korea does to demonstrate their supposed credibility in the international system.
Because really, without China, what does North Korea have? A couple of outdated nukes, a starving population (and it's already being argued that the recent resurgence of the famine might have been the cause of this conflict), and a lethargic egotist who wants to bring the world down with him.

NK has no defense against High Altitude Bombers... We won't even get into the fact they have no chance against Stealth technology. All the US would have to do is Fly over and Drop smart bombs on whatever they wanted and decimate the NK army.

Berz out.

South Korea's defense minster was forced to resign over his handling of North Korean shelling today, he will be replaced shortly, and official policies governing response to North Korean attack are being changed to allow a greater use of force.

Why? He responded with 80 missiles to n.k
I suspect this is is a publicity scheme; a bluff that sk is stepping up their game.

In hindsight, Seoul will feel the effects of war no matter how it goes down

war strategists say america cant win a war with NK unless they go nuclear

as for NK air force; their MIGs did intercept and try to force down a US spy plane (a RC-135 if i recall) back several years ago that was headed to NK (in international waters)
Whacko Bush didn't even use the opportunity to strike
edit: yep a rc-135s

i imagine the USA wouldnt do anything if NK did attack SK they may feel like they have to since its an affront to them (since they're stationed there) but they just cant afford it and the risks would be too great

however its probably because no1 knows how the other party would react that we actually don't have a war going on there

I don't see why they'd need to go nuclear. They are pretty much a sitting target. It seems to me that the only issue is getting it all done before they can do significant damage to South Korea.

But that's based on what I've read... If you can post some articles by other war strategists I'd love to hear it! Not not those left bullshit fear mongers either

that's maybe why they would, As NoKo they would start firing their Missiles at Japan, to widen the conflict, and to draw Chinese support.

the only risistance that NoKo put is , its Mig-29s (1980s), which are quite old, conventional Romeo/fox class subs (1960-70s). They do have alot of conventional tanks/howitzer that can inflict some damage on SoKo.

Yeah, apparently NK has enough artillery aimed at Seoul to level it in two hours.
http://www.businessinsider.com/map-o...o-hours-2010-5

I wonder how long it would take the US to mobilize and send fighters/bombers to even reach their artillery.
