North Korea fires at island in South Korea

Report: N. Korea fires on S. Korea, injuring at least 6

Seoul, South Korea (CNN) -- North Korea on Tuesday fired artillery into the sea near its tense western sea border with South Korea, injuring at least four South Korean soldiers and two civilians, the Yonhap news agency reported.

At least 200 rounds of artillery hit an inhabited South Korean island after the North started firing about 2:30 p.m. local time, Yonhap said.
South Korea's military responded with 80 rounds of artillery and deployed fighter jets to counter the fire, the report said.
The South Korean army also raised its alert condition, the report said.

Images of plumes of smoke were quickly broadcast on Yonhap television from the island of Yeonpyeong, but it was not immediately clear what the artillery had hit.

The island that was hit has a total of about 1,300 residents, a fisherman who lives on the island told Yonhap.
The South Korean government immediately called an emergency meeting of its security ministers.

why cant they settle this rivalry over a game of starcraft

The North implemented their Ling rush strategy perfectly by striking first.

We'll see how the Southern Terran hold out. Will their supply depot and siege tank strategy hold up?

A mechanism for the transfer of prisoners of war
Both sides pledged not to "execute any hostile act within, from, or against the demilitarised zone", or enter areas under control of the other.

The agreement also called for the establishment of the Military Armistice Commission (MAC) and other agencies to ensure the truce held.

The MAC, which comprises members from both sides, still meets regularly in the truce village of Panmunjom.

Despite the relative peace since the war ended, tensions remain high between the two Koreas, and their border remains the most heavily militarised frontier in the world.

From my understanding, the conspiracy theories claim that the ship ran aground and it was blamed on North Korea because of the elections that were about to be held around that time. Basically the south blamed the north for its fuck up.

In this case, what does the south have to benefit from this. Did they accidentally shell themselves and then blame it on the North?

I think its more believable that the North actually shelled the south in order to instigate something.

Read on another forum that one SK soldier has been killed.. Not sure how credible my source is but he's South Korean if that changes anything

What kind of artillery were they using.. 200 rounds and i only see like 4 fires?..

There are times I really wish Canada didn't border the States..

I'm still not sure why North Korea is at war with South Korea, do they want to take over the South?
