Common issues for Infiniti g35 sedan

Calling in G35 drivers, what is the common problems for this car? what is the required gas? Had already google it, some people mentioned it requires 87 minimum but premium is recommended. Is that true?

Why would you need a high octane? It's N/A and doesn't have too high of a C/R?

And here, it was a lot of work to find this website for you but I guarantee you'll get better answers from here http://www.6mt.net/forum/

Which model year are you looking at?

Make sure you take it for a test drive. I was not a happy camper when I test drove an 03 sedan with the 6 speed. Shifter was shaking like a bitch, interior is very dated (I have no idea why they thought a slab of plastic right down the middle paired with no other trim was a good idea for a luxury sedan), and the exhaust gets a little drone-ish. Fuel economy as you'd expect isn't it's strong suit and steering feel is of a heavier car.

Take a read of this
http://www.canadiandriver.com/2007/0...-2003-2006.htm

It's still a good all-rounder IMO with the VQ35 motor and optional all wheel drive

I have an 03, some common problems are the seats motor may stop working, eats gas like it's nothing, brakes wear out faster than usual.

But all this common problems go away when you drive it. I don't know what tofu is talking about, maybe he tried a lemon. My shifter doesn't shake at all, steering wheel is heavier.... compared to a civic. Driver seat is extremely comfy, as well as back seats are roomy and comfy, dont really think you can get a better 2003 car for it's price!!
And I only fill up 91.

^I'm not referring to steering wheel weighting, I've driven many BMWs with way heavier steering. The car does not feel like an agile car IMO that is what I'm trying to say

common problems are with electronics. sometimes related to the stereo and then the car's battery will drain and it will probably need to be boosted every so often. I also think the lights in the clusters or even the cluster itself sometimes has problems.

The drivetrain is fantastic, but most people make the common mistake of trying to twin turbo the car. The motor is bullet proof N/A but its stock internals cant handle FI.

i think they require a premium fuel. Check the gas door of one of them and see if it says it requires a premium 91 octaine fuel. In that case, run whatever the car recommends. Sure 87 octaine can run "fine", but i've seen plenty of cars come to the shop I work at with spark plugs all white. Indicating the engine is running hot and lean. Im talking about fairly new cars that have no problems. When we question the customers about what type of gas they use, they admit to putting regular fuel in the car.

Now this might only look like you are fouling spark plugs more often, but after time and mileage is could do extensive damage to your valves and cause loss of compression. I've also seen burned and damaged valves due to this.

just my opinion.

Good Luck!

my folks had a maxi with the same engine.

common problems were mostly electronic. ie MAF, Electronic motor mounts..
yes, prem fuel only. i recall reading themanual stated that regular unleaded fuel can be used as a short term. i would say, go by nissan/ infiniti's recommendation and fill prem.

i fond it quite thirsty when compared to a accord v6.

Never had any problems with my coupe. Eats brakes a bit faster, but I just went aftermarket and now it's running like a charm.
And as for gas.. terrible. LOL
What do you expect though.. It's a G35, not a Corolla..

no problems in the 08 awd with 91 octane. maintnence is pretty easy. do my oil changes at the dealer and the filters i do at home 30 sec for engine intake filters and 10min for incabin air filters.

edit* oh yea i think the rotors warp easily. maybe its cuz i live in westwood plateau but i had them resurfaced once and then an year later i can feel the warped rotors. i just left it alone, itsl ike 400 to resurface at dealer lol

Probably not relevant, but I have a 2011 G37S coupe 7AT and it totally died after ~5 months of ownership (less than 7000kms). Full electrical failure.... dealer didn't know what caused it, so I had a full ECU reset and reflash. Car was out for like 2 weeks!

Every car will have the occasional defective ones.. although that is baffling how it all just completely died.

OP, you just have to take it for what it is. It's a 3.5L RWD/AWD sportscar. So it's needless to say that there's gonna be more costs than a Civic.

I suggest the Acura TSX, TL as less costly alternatives..

Having said that, I love my G

you can run 87, a lot of sedan owners use that, i personally wouldn't.

honestly i can't think of any common problems for sedans, there are a few for the coupe though.

i'd buy a 05+ though

If you're concerned about the maintenance, you can always look into an Altima SE-R! It uses the 'newer' VQ engine, and is much cheaper to insure. Sure you'll get FWD instead of RWD, but you won't be winning any drag races with a G anyways. I also think the Altima SER's interior looks a hell lot better than the 1G G35. The SER also has a sport exhaust that sounds scary when starting up, and it won't have the 'drone' like on the G/Z (the moo-ing sound coming from a megaphone)

Altima

I was looking for an SER for my 'weekend' commute from Kelowna to Vancouver, but I ended up with a MSP6. I can't say no to AWD.

your car american? there is alot of problems with the infinitis that are coming up from the us, specially with electrical. you get what you pay for.

but for 03's, problems would be...radios, seat bases, door lock actuators, window regulators and a few little things. but for the engine, its bullet proof if you properly maintain it.

ps: dont buy american g's...there nothing but trouble.

Nope. Bought it from Auto West Infiniti...

Yeah, complete electrical failure was weird. Even the techs have never seen a similar case recently.

PS - I don't mean to hijack the thread. Sorry.
