ef sports chek richmond (might be a long read)

So I bought a pair of shoes (lebron 7's) from Sports Chek in Richmond Centre. Got it off of my friend on his staff discount just around a week ago.

Reason I am returning it is because I just bought the new lebron 8's which were are amazing.

Anyways,

On the way to the gym, I figured hey why not, I'll just stop by sports chek to see if I could return these shoes without a receipt since it's on the way and the shoes were still unopened in the box, in my car.

I went in, asked the girl if it's possible to return the shoes and she said yeah it is. She got the manager over. At this point I was thinking maybe she needed him to confirm the transaction. The manager pulled me aside and told me these were high end items (lol) and that they get stolen a lot so they needed to keep the shoes to put under investigation. They get my info so I can pick it up next day. At this point I lost it because I thought this would take no more than a few minutes. So I argued with the manager saying I already bought new editions, i just want to return it now for how much i bought it for. I mentioned I got it from my friend who works there for staff discount so he can confirm it.

The problem was, it slipped my mind that when I returned it, they would be giving me the full price of the item back, not the staff discount price. I assumed though, it would of been all in the computer and they would of seen the transaction take place.

So long story short, the manager thought I was scamming the place by trying to return the shoes for full price. I would of scored huge by getting away with... what $60? more than I paid for... in FUCKING GIFT CARDS LOL and on top of that I am now under investigation and potentially charged for attempted fraud.

I was held under my free will in the store, waiting for a good 30 minutes. I got my friend to call the store after and they said I was being hostile as well. I just want my fucking money I paid for it back and I think this situation is completely horse shit.

Are they breaking any rules or is this seriously protocol?

BrRsn 12-19-2010 01:53 PM

They're fucking dumb. It happened a lot at my old store where employees bought shit on discount then returned it for full price for a pretty big profit (discounts usually around 50 percent).

Anyways, the managers @ sportchek are a bunch of tools, the majority of them. They are suspicious of everyone, I hated working there.

Don't worry too much about it, just say you wanted what u paid back, and use ur new shoes as proof that you really didn't have a motive for scamming.

good job ratting your friend out.

employee discounts are for EMPLOYEES.

Culverin 12-19-2010 02:24 PM

i worked at sport check.
employee discounts aren't just for employees. It's friends and family.

U still dun goofed

Leopold Stotch 12-19-2010 02:25 PM

^ actually you're allowed to help your friends buy stuff with your discount at sport chek, at least that's what my friends tell me.

but when it does come to discounts and employee discounts, why would you even try without your friend there or without a receipt? I can understand your anger but i think you went about it the wrong way.

BlackZRoadster 12-19-2010 02:26 PM

what a effing douchebag, your friend did you a favor and bought it with his discount. Did you ever think about asking him if it's alright to go return it by yourself.

Im surprised he even treats you as a friend now that this has ruined his relationship with the store he works at.

vafanculo 12-19-2010 02:27 PM

I returned an under armor shirt with no receipt yesterday there with no problems. Granted, I just did a size swap. I also had to speak to manager and give my DL.

Were you an ass from the getgo? Also, hope your friend don't get fired

Returning things under employee discount should always be approached with caution.

dont assume that unless you know specifically what the details of the employee discount are. i know for a fact that sportchek employees are allowed to use their discount for their friends up to a certain amount a year.

BlackZRoadster 12-19-2010 02:57 PM

if the details say you are allowed to buy stuff for friends, I'm sure the details will say you need a valid receipt to do a return as well.

regardless, he should have gave his friend a heads up.

Hey OP,

Fuck You, Douchebag. You initiated the whole thing. And by not having a receipt, what the fuck is the store supposed to do? When I worked retail, I would seriously get pissed off with people that get mad for not being able to return shit without a receipt. You assume way too much. How the heck is the store supposed to know you bought it there? You can't count on them being able to backtrace your purchase. You dun goofed. If I was there, I would've given you the back of my hand, you bitch.

Preemo 12-19-2010 03:20 PM

^ Anyone who worked retail will understand this.

jigga250 12-19-2010 03:28 PM

way to waste your friend's employee discount....I'm sure thats the last time he'll ever hook you up

OP got busted trying to make a quick buck

Should have asked your friend that worked with you to go in with you, at least the manager will know you are legit and not having to take any precautionary action against you. But having your damn receipt would have helped and not make anyone suspect you.

MindBomber 12-19-2010 03:40 PM

A friend of mine tried to return a shirt without a receipt at Sirens and they took the shirt and wouldn't return it, claiming that it was possible she had stolen it. It never used to be a problem to return something without a receipt, they just looked your name up in the computer, I guess things are changing..

What a sick world we live in.

xtacy777 12-19-2010 04:35 PM

funny responses but all is appreciated

yeah i asked my friend if i was able to return it without him being there, he said it was okay.

Also, the discount was for friends and families (they get a cap for how much discount they can get)

And the story was like this, I had to go play ball. I went into the store ONLY BECAUSE my shoes were still in my car unopened. I didnt care if they did not let me return the shoes because it was my fault that i bought the lebron 8's for final sale anyways.

I would of been fine and left if they told me i could not return it, but the fact is, the girl said it was POSSIBLE. In addition, the manager held me there for 30 minutes doing inventory in the back or something so I had no way of going because he held on to my shoes while doing all that. I did not initiate shit

TOPEC 12-19-2010 04:39 PM

op ur an idiot.

I understand what your trying to say, but I've lost my receipt before and wanted to return something, so why should I not be able to go into a store and ask if they can search it on the computer without them seizing my merchandise. If your names not in the computer, go fuck yourself they shouldn't return it, but at least give a person the chance to ask.

RETURN WITHOUT A RECEIPT
If you wish to make a return and have lost your receipt, merchandise will be returned based on the lowest price the item was offered for sale within the 60 days preceding the return; and the refund will be applied to a Sport Chek Retail Store Merchandise Credit. If the amount of the return is less than $5.00, cash will be refunded. Items must be unused and unworn and in their original packaging. You will be required to provide government issued picture ID and provide your name, telephone number and postal code for the transaction.

skiiipi 12-19-2010 04:54 PM

OP, you initiated shit when the manager told you that you would have gotten full value for the shoes because you didn't mention that you got them on an employee discount, and your response to him was "not my problem". You really that that's the attitude that's going to help resolve things?

When you purchase something on someone's employee discount, there are protocols to be followed when you want to return them. Such as the employee being present, and the original resceipt being present. If you were upfront with the cashier from the begining and explain that you lost your recipt to your friends employee purchase, none of this would have happened. Instead you failed to mention that the purchase was made with an employee discount, and when the cashier told you the value that you will be getting back you simply just went along as if nothing was wrong. It wasn't until the manager asked how you got the shoes did you mention about them being purchased on your friends employee discount.

Whether or not this was all done intentionally is not for me to decide, but the way you conducted yourself, and the way you handled the situation made it seem like you were trying to make a fradulent return.
