Can you read?

Hey. My car is white. A black car was parked beside me when I pulled in. I come back to my car, and the car that is parked next to me is red. I have black paint transfer and damage on my car. I wonder who did it?

Call ICBC. Give them the plate. They'll call the person and waste an hour of thier time to check the car. If the car shows damage, you've found the culprit. If there's no damage, then you wasted that guy's hour, and nothing happens to that person.

A False Claim would be the Culprit claiming a hit and run with no evidence whatsoever, or finding a car with the same colour and similar damage, then claiming it.

By doing this, all you're doing is pointing the finger in thier direction, and not at them. You have nothing to lose by doing this.

Find the culprit. His insurance pays for damages. Insurance rates go up.
Find the culprit. ICBC finds the car. Settle it out of ICBC. Guy will be more careful next time.
Not the culprit. Your insurance pays for the damage. Rates go up.
No idea who it is. Insurance pays for it. Rates go up.
No idea who it is. Pay for it yourself. Pull $400 out of your wallet to fix the damage, and regret not taking preventative measures.

There was no note left by witness, and you are telling him that you could say that when it never happened

That is a false claim

Good luck with it man.
But you're probably gonna need to bite the bullet and just fix it yourself.
A. Who would take thousands of pictures, just to protect against one unlikely scenario.
B. Cars are always coming and going, I don't see how that would reliable evidence in any way.

Will ICBC not allow you to file a claim on damage that occurs in a parking lot?

youre outta luck. hit up a bodyshop and ask them for a quote. if it exceeds your 1000 dollar deductable then go icbc and claim it. if it only exceeds it by a bit then don't claim it so it won't be recorded on your cars record.

I've taken photos quite a few times simply because I thought the risk of them hitting me was higher.

Things like: shitty parking jobs or preexisting parking scuff marks.

I just figure that it is a lot less hassle if it turns out that I'm right and they do hit me. Better than footing a $300 deductible.

And SpuGen explained it quite well, if you have a picture, I'd hope that ICBC would at least request the vehicle to come in for inspection. All in all, I find it to be worth a shot, others may not.

Damn that sucks.
Something similar happened to our MDX a couple of days ago at a plaza in Richmond. We got lucky though b/c someone witnessed the accident. Still sucks though b/c of the inconvenience to us.

they do. my old beat up van was parked in a parking lot and some dumbnuts managed to hit the whole left side from the mid panel to the rear panel ripping off the whole side moulding and leaving green scuff marks all the way across. ICBC told us to pay the deductible to get it repaired.

i'm going to admit i made a bit of an assumption by saying that, but i didn't completely assume that before i said it

my friend had his car stolen from the parking lot under the theatres a few years ago, we went to security and they clearly stated that they do not have cameras in the parking lots. whether he meant just that lot, whether it's been changed and they've added security cams, either of those, i don't know

shit dude tough luck

whenever i park in a large lot i'm always worrying about my car even though its somewhat of a beater. it just sucks that when someone does something (even accidentally) they refuse to take responsibility for their own actions.

anyways I hope it all works out for you man, good luck.

This seems reasonable, but I taking photos every time you park somewhere would be nuts.
If someone scuffs your bumper and doesn't leave a note they are likely trying to avoid paying to fix your car, so if they were called in theres nothing stopping them from putting on a bumper from the wreckers before they go to ICBC and destroying the evidence.

Personally, I just park at the back of the lot..

park at the back of the lot...risk your car getting stolen.
park in a busy area...risk your car getting hit n' run.

RS members never seem to be happy

icbc will cover you for hit and runs no matter what. it just comes down to who's going to foot the bill for the deductible.

spugens method is flawed as taking pictures of the neighbouring cars alone doesn't prove they caused the damage.

the most logical thing to do would be to ask around for possible video footage. that, along with a picture of the car next to him, would be sufficient evidence to have them foot the bill. but this isn't really practical.

if youre going to take a picture of cars beside yours everytime you park, you might as well have a video camera in your car recording your daily driving.

OP drove into the spot front-in, and his car's rear right corner got hit when other cars turn right in that corner. It most likely has nothing to do with the car beside him.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children.
