I know i'm going to sound like a food snob, but my gf and I hardly ever go to Dine Out. It's not exactly an accurate representation of the quality of food. If you really wanna experience the restaurant, go on a night when they aren't pumping things out on an assembly line.

This.

P.S. You are not being a food snob. You just speak the truth. :hotbaby:

I would disagree somewhat. The restaurants are offering their regular menu as well as Dine Out, and the two places I have gone to with groups of 6+ people, some have ordered off the dine out menu, some off the regular. In both instances everyone was just as happy with either menu.

I went to the Pourhouse for dineout and was quite satisfied, even though I have been there multiple times beforehand with their regular menu.

A good restaurant will be a good restaurant no matter what the occasion is. I should still get top quality food and great service if it is dine out or not. I think that is what separates the good from the mediocre in Vancouver's cut-throat dining scene.

Joe Fortes.

Never seems to disappoint. Go here on occasion.

Ordered the Beef Carpaccio, Steak w/ Prawns, and ended off with the Tiramisu. GF had the same starter, Prawn and Scallop Pasta, and last the Creme Brule. We also had Kishu Oyster to start, amazing!

9/10

Went to Water Street cafe tonight and I wasnt overly impressed.

Although we enjoyed the dish of calamari (not on the DOV menu) and gf liked the oyster appy, the duck didnt taste like duck, my gf would describe it more as a turkey taste and I'd have to agree.

The crab cakes werent bad, however imo it wasnt super filling

Yaminashi is allllll male.

But yes, water st cafe was a complete bust!! Took 45 mins for our DOV appies to come, off the menu appie of calamari came in what it seemed to be 10 mins since we ordered. Timingg was very off.

I can understand it was busy but how long does it take to make caesar salad and my fanny bay oysters which honestly looked like they were just boiled with the sauce scooped overtop. Although I must say the sauce was pretty yums.

My duck confit was dry as ef and it didn't even taste like duck. Felt like I was eating turkey that was heated up in the microwave. Husband's crab cakes weren't bad but I didn't wanna eat too much of it since it didn't look like there was enough for him.

Dessert was average. My cheesecake was a bit too sweet and his tiramisu was light and fluffy.

Waitress was unattentive and kind of rude, I actually thought the water boys deserves more praise as they were at our table every 5 mins to refill our waters.

I probably won't be going back there anytime soon.

If it was proper Caesar salad, it can take a while.

Went to nyala today...
It was crap. Everything came out so damned oily and they insisted on putting coconut flakes on everything.
I got the lamb for my entree and it was shit. Overcooked and sitting in a layer of oil with rice. The dessert tasted like bad moon cakes.

I went to Aqua Riva with my bf. Our reservation was at 6:15 because we booked it like 2 nights in advance. All the window seats were full, atmosphere was good. Our waitress was pretty attentive and had a smile on (which is always good!) I got the scallops, salmon, and banana creme cheesecake. Both my bf and I chose to go with the scallops. They were pretty bland to me, and quite raw on the inside. I love raw scallops, but my bf hates the texture of raw things and he ended up giving his portion to me. The salmon was really good! It came with veggies, rice with bits of bacon, and sauce. The sauce was the best part imo. The dessert was good, but not outstanding. Actually, nothing was really outstanding.

menus up on Jan 9. Can't wait!

Haven't been excited for dineout for a couple years now because it gets worse and worse every year. I hate how when you start looking at menus it feels like you're eating the exact same thing at every place. Hopefully there's at least one that stands out. Some of the restaurants I see on it in past years is hilarious though like Hons haha
